News & Announcements: Q3 Newsletter for the Class of 2019
Dear Class of 2019,
Junior year is an important year in college and career readiness. It is a time that post-secondary action plans kick into high gear. Students should start visualizing different futures and research various post-secondary options. Academic readiness and personal preferences are important factors to consider when identifying post-secondary options. A fulfilling post-secondary experience is created when the option meets the student's wants and needs. Below are a variety of resources and events to assist the Class of 2019 with their post-secondary plans.
Individual Junior Conferences:
This spring, the counseling staff presented a spring lesson on post-secondary planning. We are currently in the process of completing individual junior conference with all juniors. In this junior conference, we will verify their senior schedule in relation to their diploma type and discuss their college/career plan. It is an exciting time to see our students take ownership of their future, by asking themselves what they value and relating that to their post-secondary exploration to ensure that they find the best post-secondary fit (military, apprenticeship, 2-year college, 4-year college, gap year, workforce).
Using Naviance to Research Colleges
Students, particularly during their junior year, can use Naviance to streamline the college search process and conduct an in-depth search for schools by location, size, academic programs, cost and more.
SAT/ACT Test Dates
Students are encouraged to begin taking the SAT and/or the ACT college entrance exams starting in the spring semester of their junior year. Most colleges will take your best scores (super score) and will accept either test.
Students should check the admission requirements of the colleges they plan to attend to determine the importance in each admissions decision and to determine if one is preferred or required.
Most colleges require you to send SAT/ACT scores directly to them from the testing agency. Therefore, students are highly encouraged to send their scores to four colleges during the registration process. Sending them during the registration process is free, while waiting until after the test will cost the student a fee for each send.
