Principal's Note
Welcome to 4th quarter! We are excited for the final nine weeks of the school year. There are many fun events we have planned for the students. We also have STAR testing in April and SCREADY testing in May. We are looking forward to a strong close to the year academically and then celebrating all of our success this school year.
I want to take the time to say "Thank You" to our parents for:
1) Taking our parent survey. We have hit over 50% as a school for the parent survey. Thank you for taking your time to provide us feedback so we can begin to work on improving for next year. If you have not completed the survey, we would love for you to do so. There is still time! Eighth grade still needs about 12 completed surveys to hit 50% for their extra time outside.
2) Signing up to help anytime we send out a sign-up genius. Even if you can't give time to help at school, many of you still help in ways that are just as important. We could not make it through an entire school year without your donations and support.
3) Working with us on our dismissal policy. Students and parents have made a wonderful transition this year to our policy so we do not have to interrupt classes. If you forget to send in a letter, the best thing to do is arrive between class times. We appreciate you trying to let us know through emails. However, those emails may not be seen in time.
Tournament Day is our next big event. Over the years it has turned into the best day for everyone. There is a tournament for everyone along with games set up for students that do not want to participate in a tournament to be able to play. Students are allowed to hang out with their friends either inside or outside, play in up to four tournaments, and watch any tournament they want. Teams dress-up in fun costumes or outfits that go along with their team names and our staff join teams to participate in the fun! You can click below to go to the Tournament Day website. Money can be paid at lunch or through PTO venmo.
Tardy: As a reminder, our school day starts at 8:10. If students are still in the hallway at 8:10, they are considered tardy. For the remainder of this year, we will be locking the front door at 8:10. However, students are receiving tardy signatures if they aren't in class at the bell. Therefore, dropping students off at 8:08 or 8:09 will not give them enough time to make it to homeroom. We ask that for the remainder of the year, parents and students make it a goal to have your child dropped off by 8:05. This will be the time next year that front doors will lock and students will need to be signed in. We are trying to help students be prepared and ready at 8:10 when the bell rings.
For the remainder of this year, after 8:10 parents will need to come in with their child and sign into the front office.
We hope you had a wonderful weekend and will have a fantastic week!

REPORT CARDS WILL BE AVAILABLE IN PARENT PORTAL ON TUESDAY, MARCH 21ST BY 4:00 PM
For the Charleston Parent Meeting
2) There will be one more permission form coming home. This will need to be signed and returned before the meeting.
3) Medication forms will need to be filled out and turned in to the nurse before this meeting as well. If the medication is prescription, we will need a form signed by a doctor along with a bottle from the pharmacy with exact amount of medication needed for the trip.
If you are sending "Just in Case" medication (Benadryl, Tylenol, etc.) you will need to fill out a medication form to be turned in before the meeting.
**The medication will be handed to the nurse the morning of. If it's over the counter medication, it must be an unopened bottle. We will return all medication not used at the end of the Field Trip.**
VERY IMPORTANT: No student should have medication with them in their rooms unless they have permission from a doctor and parent to self carry things like an epi-pen or an inhaler. (The nurse will monitor this). Other than that there should be NO medication in their luggage- prescription or over the counter. It is an extremely serious policy and must be followed. If a student is found with any medication, he/she will be held at the hotel until a parent arrives to pick him/her up.
GOOD LUCK TO OUR BAND ON TUESDAY!! WE KNOW YOU WILL DO AN AMAZING JOB AND SHOW OFF ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK.

WEEKLY REMINDERS (Everything below is a repeat of information to refer to if you need a refresher).
"AWAY FOR THE DAY" - QTR 3 POLICY RE: CELL PHONES, APPLE WATCHES, EARBUDS, ETC.
Now that we are entering 3rd quarter and everyone is aware of the "Away for the Day" movement, we are changing the consequences. We know that at this point if students have a phone or other item on them during the day, it is because they have chosen to go against school policy.
The 3rd quarter consequences are:
1st Offense: After-school detention on the following Tuesday or Thursday (whichever comes first.) Also for 7 days, phone/earbuds/smartwatches must be turned in each morning to the front office. Students can claim the item at the end of the school day.
2nd Offense: After-school detention on the following Tuesday or Thursday (whichever comes first.) Also for 14 days, phone/earbuds/smartwatches must be turned in each morning to the front office. Students can claim the item at the end of the school day.
3rd Offense: After-school detention on the following Tuesday or Thursday (whichever comes first.) Also for 30 DAYS phone/earbuds/smartwatches must be turned in each morning to the front office. Students can claim the item at the end of the school day.
Offenses more than 3 will be handled on a case by case basis.
We ask for your support to teach our students that being present in the moment without distractions from these items is extremely important! I have to give our students a big shout out! We have so many less cell phone problems this school year. We know there are still some devices out there, but we hope those students will eventually learn to let go of their devices, as it is an addiction, and keep them in their lockers. Overall, the student body has been doing a fantastic job! Our teachers have also been doing a fantastic job by not allowing the use of these items in their classes.
Thank you again for your support! It takes all of us to teach important skills to our youth!
EARLY DISMISSAL PROCEDURE
Class time is valued and we strive to interrupt class periods as little as possible.
- When your child requires early dismissal, on the day of dismissal, send a signed, handwritten NOTE to school with your child that includes date and dismissal time.
- When your child arrives at school, he/she should bring the note to Mrs. Kilyanek’s (Miss K) room and she will mark your child’s agenda with the dismissal time.
- At dismissal time, your child will meet you in our front office - please sign your child out on the front office computer.
- If your child must leave early and has not brought in a note, we will call your child to the office during the next class change. You are welcome to wait in our front office lobby.
- We realize emergencies happen - if you have one and must interrupt class time, we will ask that you first speak with an administrator.
- Students will not be dismissed after 2:40 PM. They must wait for the 3:10 dismissal bell.
