What??? Summer Learning? ...
Students that earned an Incomplete during Remote Learning should really put in time and effort into subjects using one or more of the online tools listed below. These programs are tailored to the skill level of each student.
Apps Available to Students Over the Summer
Aleks - Math
Zoom - access until June 30th.
Caudill Book Reading This Summer
Students in 5th grade going into 6th grade should use the Caudill Cloud pdf listed below to take notes on the book of their choice.
Let's Math!
Aleks Topics
These skills are foundational and they build mastery over time. Kids complete topics and earn pieces of "pie" along the way.
This is an easy academic tool to apply to the summer for all students.
The topics are matched to the level of performance for each student.
MMS students have access to this already on their device.
Incoming 6th graders will get rostered to Aleks in the Fall.
IXL
You will find many skills available in all of these areas.
IXL Smart Score
When a student starts practicing a skill, the SmartScore starts at 0. As the student answers questions correctly, the SmartScore increases. If a question is answered incorrectly, the score decreases. However, the SmartScore is not just based on the percentage of questions correct. It is calculated using many factors, including the number of questions completed, question difficulty, and consistency, and offers superior accuracy in assessing student achievement.
A skill is mastered when the SmartScore reaches 100, but the number of questions it takes to master a skill varies with every student. To continuously motivate students, IXL recommends setting other practice milestones along the way to mastery. A score of 80 is good, and a score of 90 is considered excellent. When a student finally achieves skill mastery, you can be confident that they truly understand the skill.
Good= 80-89
Excellent= 90-99
Mastered = 100
Social Studies 6th Grade
The National Geographic book offers some great opportunities to learn a little more about some topics and civilizations we have already covered, or to explore some new civilizations we have not discussed yet. If you are interested in topics we have already covered or need some review, please look at Units 1-4 in National Geographic. If you would like to learn about some civilizations that we did not study during class, please look at Units 5-9. Enjoy your exploration!
Social Studies 7th Grade
Students have access to their Social Studies textbook, American Stories through nglsync.cengage.com. Students' usernames are their school email addresses. Their passwords are their first and last name initials followed by their student ID number.
If a student earned an Incomplete for Quarter 4, please focus on Chapters 21 and 24 in Unit 8.
To Review and Extend you may:
Read any Lessons from Chapters 1-24, or extend your learning by accessing any of the Handbooks from the left hand side menu.
For each Chapter, under the Resources tab on the right hand side, you may extend your learning with Britannica Launch Packs, Skills Lessons, Active History, or Biographies.
