Remote Learning Skaggs Elementary
May 4-8th, 2020
Note from the Principals
It's hard to believe that we are starting our 7th week of remote learning already. That also means that there is just two weeks of school after this Friday. Although this may not have been a journey we chose to be on, I hope you and your family are able to create and discover something positive out of this setting.
Mrs. Williams, Mrs. Carranza, and I loved every minute of our virtual meetings with the upper grade students last week. We can't wait to see the K-2 students this week! Our children are so amazingly beautiful and wonderful! Again, thank you for keeping our Stars motivated and stay connected! We thank you so much for your continued commitment to remote learning!
Teacher Appreciation Week is this coming week!
PTA has put together another special week for teachers! Due to the unusual setting this year, PTA is combining TAW and End of the Year events together for teachers. Tuesday-Thursday have already been taken care by the PTA, but they're asking for your help on Monday and Friday. Student-created notes and drawings are teachers' favorite keepsake! Boxes will be left outside of the school on Monday from 12-4 pm for you to drop off your child's notes. For safety, we ask that you get out of your car when there is no one else at the sidewalk. Friday is when you can choose to express your appreciation for your child's teacher for the whole year. Please know that the Teacher Favorites (below) is shared because it is often asked of me. You do not have to give a gift. Other teachers we can remember during this week are office staff, teaching assistants, custodians, and cafeteria staff. These hard-working people behind the scene solidify what we do for children at school.
Virtual Field Day-May 8
We are designating this Friday as our Field Day, so we hope everyone will participate in the challenges in the link below. There will not be other daily lessons in Google Classroom for Friday.
2020-2021 School Year
Classroom Assignment
While we realize that this spring semester has been anything but typical, we also recognize that now is the time of year when parents begin to think about teacher assignments for the 2020-2021 school year.
Assigning students to classrooms is a very detailed and time-intensive process for all of our teachers. Each grade level spends countless hours during the spring and summer months, looking at each child individually as they place him/her in a class for the following year. Many factors are considered during this process, including student learning styles, teaching styles, personalities, amount of structure needed, emotional needs, etc. I share this information with the hope that this deeper understanding allows you to have trust in this process. You can be assured that we will be extremely diligent in carefully considering every student's needs and learning style as we form classes for the 2020-2021 school year.
In the event that you desire to share a special request with me regarding the teacher with whom your child is placed next year, please know that we will not accept requests that include a specific teacher name. Instead, please submit (in writing) information about the type of teacher who you feel would be the best match for your child. However, please know that I am not asking you to write me letter.
If you choose to submit teacher characteristics, I need to receive your written information no later than tomorrow, May 1, 2020 in order for it to be utilized as we begin the 2020-2021 class formation process. For your convenience, any written information can be emailed to me at karen.lee@pisd.edu.
Coming Next Week
Plans on end-of-year procedures on chromebooks, library books, materials left at school, spring pictures, yearbooks, and etc.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lee
