ThunderRidge Weekly Update
October 27, 2022
Patterson's Perspective
Grizzly Families,
I hope everyone enjoyed fall break and the beautiful Colorado weather.
As we head into the 2nd quarter, I want to make sure all students are taking advantage of the academic supports we have in place here at ThunderRidge. Our Access and Advisement classes are crucial for students to get the help they need outside of regular class time. I encourage all students to utilize these supports so they are prepared for semester finals, which are just around the corner. Parents, please help your students by checking their grades and accessing Canvas to see where they are academically.
On another note, we are happy to announce that The University Of Denver has finally confirmed a date and time for the Class of 2023 Graduation ceremony! Graduation will take place on May 16th at 4pm at the University of Denver. We have a facility contract with the university, but they determine the date based on other graduations.
Thank you all. Please let me know if you have any questions or feedback.

The Dangerous Truth About Marijuana
"You wouldn't understand, you don't know what it is like to be a teenager!" Has your student ever uttered this phrase to you? Today's teens are facing new and sometimes dangerous challenges that we never have. One of these "new" challenges is the potential exposure and use of high potency THC marijuana products. Students may turn to substance use as a measure to cope with the stressors that they experience in their lives, without fully understanding the severe consequences of their actions. We invite our community to learn more about the high potency THC marijuana products and their detrimental effects on the developing teenage brain from guest speaker, Laura Stark, who tragically lost her high school aged son after a psychotic break from using high potency THC marijuana.
IB Update
IB was on the move this week with a trip over to our other IB High School in the district. All of our IB Science students this week went over to Douglas County High School to work with their DC counterparts on the IB Science Project. This saw the students take their knowledge of science and the scientific method to address different natural disasters. In small groups, the groups of Juniors and Seniors worked on scientific solutions to areas hit with a variety of natural disasters. This was an amazing opportunity to work collaboratively with other IB students and take an opportunity to get out of their ThunderRidge world for an afternoon. The teachers also found the opportunity to work collaboratively with their DC colleagues as a great way to spend an afternoon.
All of us at both ThunderRidge and Douglas County High Schools enjoyed our time together and look forward to more opportunities to work together in the future.
