English Language Arts (ELA)
The kindergarten ELA program is dividing into different components. Below you will find the skills that we will review/learn during the upcoming week.
Daily Message
- We will be getting to know the five parts of a friendly letter (heading, greeting, body, closing, and signature) during the Daily Message.
- We will discuss and locate names, capital letters. and sight words (a and the)
Word Work
- We will be identifying the letters Mm, Nn, Oo, Pp, Qq, Rr
- We will identify rhythm and rhyme
- We will learn the proper handwriting position (body, hands, and paper).
- We will practice making lines top to bottom and left to right.
Comprehension
- We will read several fiction and nonfiction texts about pumpkins to learn how they grow.
- We will identify the main topic and 1 key details about pumpkins.
- We will participate in a movement to help learn the sequence of pumpkin life cycle.
- We will compare 2 versions of the same story.
Writing
- We will complete sentences (The pumpkin is _________ ) orally and/or written form.
Math
Unit 2: Counting and Comparing
- We will develop strategies for counting and keeping track.
- We will connect number words, numerals, and quantities.
- We will create equivalent sets.
- Represent quantities with pictures and/or numbers.
Content
Conscious Discipline
- Read How Full Is Your Bucket?
- We will identify strategies to calm down when we are angry or upset.
- We will discuss and practice ways to show kindness.
- We will classify and sort bucket fillers and bucket dippers.
- We will identify ways to welcome a new friend.

Birthday Celebration
Birthdays will be celebrated on the last Wednesday of each month (if possible). Our designated birthday days are listed below. Parents are welcome to join (3:00-3:30) as we sing "Happy Birthday" in the classroom and have an extra recess (outside if possible). If you are planning on taking your child home with you after the celebration please send in a note with the change of dismissal to early dismissal.
August and September: September 25th
