APS Heroes
March 28, 2020
Our APS community comes together to support each other in challenging times, and week two of the district’s closure is no exception. We would like to celebrate our students, educators, staff and administrators who have stepped up to help each other, their neighbors and our community.
Please keep an eye on your email for future communications and visit our webpage for information on At-Home Learning activities and COVID-19 updates.
High Plain Teachers Hold Car Parade for Students
Faculty and staff at High Plain Elementary took to the streets on Tuesday to visit their students’ neighborhoods. They stayed in their vehicles to maintain social distancing, and the students waved from their homes. The parade was covered by local media and even aired on the Today Show. AHS student collects goggles for local hospitals
Earlier this week, Andover High School freshman Alexander McNally set out to collect goggles and non-perishable goods to donate to local hospitals during the COVID-19 emergency. Alex knows that our healthcare providers are on the front line and in need of resources, such as personal protective equipment (PPE). Lawrence General Hospital requested masks or goggles that can be used as a PPE. Alex is a part of the AHS Men’s Swim and Dive Team and thought he could be of assistance by collecting swim goggles.
Bancroft Teacher inspires students to give back to their community
Alessandra Famiglietti, a sixth grader at West Middle School and her neighbor, Silvie Storch, a fifth grader at West Elementary, have spent their time making cloth masks for area hospitals. The idea to sew masks was Andrea Famiglietti’s, Bancroft Elementary ESL teacher and Alessandra’s mother.
Andrea Famiglietti also knows that social distancing can be difficult for senior citizens. She has asked her Bancroft students to write letters that she sends along via email to residents at Atria Marland Place in Andover.
