Second Pilot of WIN Completed this Week!

Students once again this week had the opportunity to participate in WIN (What I Need). For students who were caught up on missing assignments and had mastered their current essential learning targets, they had the opportunity to sign up for an enrichment activity. Teachers found the time incredibly helpful to have some small group time to work with students. Our Social Studies department focused in on 8th grade and worked on helping students fill in the holes. To identify which students needed assistance, they created an assessment that crossed three grade levels and covered some of the most tested and problematic areas for the Social Studies M Step Test. After administering this assessment via an online program called Socrative, they then identified those students who were in the lower percentile levels of our testing areas. They divided those students between the three full time social studies educators and used two Kahoot 14 question quizzes online to create a fun and exciting way to retest and cover the material in an engaging fashion. "It was so amazing to see the students use this technology to not only see what they may have missed or misunderstood the first time around, but also to see them correct their mistakes when we had time to retest the quiz during WIN time. The students quickly became competitive as well" said Mr. Throop. As they were going over the quiz sections, some of the 6th grade questions came up. Mr. Throop's 6th graders in the back of the room were writing down the answers as we went along to see if they got it right as well!! How cool is that!?!?
