Message from the Principal
Dear parents and caregivers,
Welcome to the 2022 school year! I hope you have enjoyed a wonderful break and feel refreshed and ready for the start of the new school year. It is with great pleasure that I join the St Elizabeth’s School community as I take on the role of Principal.
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the school community. I am a mother of two young men, Matthew (20) who is currently studying at UWA, and Liam (16) who is in Year 12 at Aquinas College. My husband, Jason, works for Elders Limited and enjoys a state management role based out of their Belmont office. My family and I moved to Perth at the beginning of 2021 to enable me to take on a secondment as the Short-Term Principal at St Columba’s Catholic Primary School, South Perth. Previous to this, I had spent a number of years in Northam, approximately 100 kilometres east of Perth where I held the role of Head of Primary at St Joseph’s School, a Pre-Kindergarten to Year 12 Catholic school. I have dedicated my entire teaching career to Catholic Education, having been employed by the Catholic Education Office since 1995 and have held various leadership positions throughout my career. I strongly believe in the importance of Catholic Education, in teaching our students the values, morals and life skills that are associated with being a Catholic. My role as a Catholic educational leader is to assist my peers and students to strive for excellence and to develop their personal faith and talents as individuals. I feel it is important to relate to all members of my community, showing respect, care, and compassion to all.
The beginning of a new school year will bring with it a wonderful rollercoaster of emotions for many, myself included – the excitement of the first day, the meeting of new people, making new friends and the learning curve associated with getting to know new teachers. I look forward to meeting all of the students, parents and guardians and welcome the opportunity to have a chat and to get to know the school community. Please feel free to contact me with any issues, concerns or even just a general welcome hello, my door is always open.
Enjoy the final weekend of holidays and I look forward to seeing everyone on Monday for the beginning of Term 1.

Covid-19 Safety Protocols
Your child’s health and well-being remains our first priority. Therefore a number of protocols will need to be adhered to for the beginning of the school year.
Marks are compulsory, however, at this stage students in Kindergarten to Year 6 are not required to wear a mask, but their teachers and support staff must wear masks. Please note that when teachers and education assistants are teaching, interacting or caring for students, they are permitted to remove their masks if they interfere with their ability to clearly communicate with students.
Parents, caregivers and contractors must wear a face mask and adhere to the COVID-19 guidelines while they are on the school grounds. Please maintain social distancing.
While parents are permitted on school grounds, they must adhere to the social distancing guidelines. Please hand sanitise before entering the classrooms.
A reminder that during school hours, all visitors must report to the Front Office before entering the school grounds, scan the WA Safe QR code and hand sanitise. If you need to collect your child during school hours, please come to the Front Office and sign your child out before collecting them from the classroom.
Our school is committed to adhering to the advice of the Chief Health Officer in ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of all within our community.
Following an internal audit of our school’s teaching and learning spaces during the Christmas holidays, only those spaces with appropriate ventilation will be used in the 2022 school year. Should any space be deemed insufficiently ventilated please rest assured that either:
- the room will not be used by students or staff; or
- Air purifiers will be installed to meet the required standard.
It is important to note that both natural and mechanical ventilation methods are utilised in our school along with the critical strategies of staff vaccinations, the wearing of masks, enhanced cleaning and ongoing expectations of high levels of hygiene. Each measure is being used to keep our students and staff safe.
As you may be aware, the State Government has mandated that all school staff are required to be double dose vaccinated before Term 1, 2022 starts.
The State Government has issued Education Worker (Restrictions on Access) Directions (No. 3), which are published on wa.gov.au. These Directions include vaccination requirements for visitors entering school sites.
Please note, students are not required to be vaccinated, however children aged over 12 can receive the COVID-19 vaccination, with access extended to children over the age of 5 in January. If you have any concerns, please discuss your child’s vaccination requirements with your doctor.
Parents/carers are not required to be vaccinated when:
dropping off or picking up their child from school
volunteering at school on an ad hoc basis – which means attendance at no more than one education facility no more than once per week
attending an event such as an assembly or parent teacher interview
entering the school after hours.
Parents/carer are required to provide vaccination evidence (single dose vaccinated from 1 January 2022 and double dose vaccinated from 31 January 2022) or exemption when:
volunteering at the school more than once a week (this includes volunteering at the school canteen, library duty or an in-class program)
working in an unpaid capacity at the school more than once a week
The following are acceptable forms of evidence of COVID-19 vaccination or exemption:
written confirmation of the COVID-19 vaccination issued by the Department of Health
the COVID-19 digital certificate, which shows only your COVID-19 vaccinations and you can access information on how to get your COVID-19 digital certificate here
an International COVID-19 Vaccination Certificate issued by the Commonwealth Government. This shows the COVID-19 vaccination recorded on the Australian Immunisation Register
medical exemption issued by the Australian Immunisation Register
a temporary exemption granted by the WA Chief Health Officer
As a school we are committed to ensuring St Elizabeth’s is a COVID-19 safe space. The Department of Health has provided clear directions regarding the requirements to keep students, staff members and our community safe. If you have any queries, please contact the school via email.
Communication this year
We ask that you read the newsletter each week and take note of important dates, events or tasks that are coming up. In return, we will endeavour to not email parents during the week (unless an urgent matter arises), but rather to have the information in one place in the weekly newsletter.
A picture says a thousand words, and we will share school moments with you primarily through photos, in school social media and in the newsletter. SeeSaw continues to focus on news relating to you child, from the teacher.
Let's try this approach together and we welcome your feedback on how it is going.
- We welcome Sara Wall back to Pre Primary this year. Simone Passera is taking long service leave in Term One and Sara Wall will be teaching the class full time, in her absence.
- We also welcome Rebecca Mackie to Year One. Rebecca will be teaching Year One full time for semester one.
Beginning of year parent information night: Pre-Primary to Year 6
Kindergarten Orientation has already been held at the end of last year.
Welcome to Pre-Kindy
After dropping off your child please join the other Pre Kindy parents in the library for a cuppa and chat.
