This week we practiced our first fire drill with both red and blue groups. Next week we will practice bus evacuation drills. Other safety drills this fall will include tornado and lockdown drills. During any safety drill, we remind students to stay calm and listen carefully to teachers to know what to expect. Thank you for reinforcing this at home as well.
As a reminder, Picture Day is next week! Be sure to get more information below!

Bus riders during COVID
During the pandemic, the practice of allowing students to ride buses not normally assigned to them will be suspended due to capacity and contact tracing concerns. Any exception to this directive would need to be approved by Zach McKinney.
Counselor's Corner
Dear HPE families,
In previous newsletters, I shared with you about the Zones of Regulation. We have a few displays around the school with the Zones and each classroom has a Zones poster and Zones check-in sheet. Our goal is for our kids to recognize their feelings and start to self-regulate. Here is an activity you can do to create your own Zones check-in at home!

HPE Library Updates
Students attending school in person will be checking out books from the library weekly. Please help your child return their books each week on their library day. If your child will be a virtual only learner then they can use HSE Curbside service to borrow books from the library.
I will be leaving a book cart that is organized by grade level, and then alphabetically for you to be able to come and pick up books. All book stacks will have a name tag to help you get the right one. I will have the cart ready for pick up on Wednesdays from 10:00-2:00. The cart will be in the lobby/vestibule at Door 1. You can just walk in, grab your book stack, and go. No need to sign in or check in. There will also be a book bin for you to return materials as you finish with them. Make sure to place your holds by noon on Tuesday to allow processing time.

Easy Ways to Help the PTO
Cut your Box Tops for Education and send them to school with your student at any time. Visit www.boxtops4education.com for a list of products.
If you shop on Amazon or at Kroger, check out these completely free and zero effort ways to raise money for the HPE PTO. The prices are the same, the service is the same, you shop the same way, but a portion of the purchase price will be donated to the PTO, that’s it!
On Amazon, just go to smile.amazon.com/ch/20-0114174 to link your account to the PTO and then check out using smile.amazon.com everytime--you cannot access this through an app so fill up your cart and then open a browser to check out or shop directly on smile.amazon.com.
For Kroger, login to your online account or create one using the Kroger Plus Card number you already have or get a new one. Then go to www.kroger.com/communityrewards and enroll in Community Rewards. Search for “VA241” and select “HARRISON PARKWAY ELEMENTARY - PTO.” Then scan your Kroger Plus Card or enter your alternate ID every time you check out just like you always have.
