Principal's Message
Dear Oak Hill Families,
The 70 inch televisions and their carts have arrived! Students and staff are so excited! Thanks to our Deputy Superintendent, Carl Mead, the district will be able to provide us with additional custodians to get the 70 inch televisions secured onto the TV carts. Hopefully, we will have them ready for the classrooms in just a couple of weeks or sooner. We are still waiting for the delivery of the i-Pad Pros, Apple TVs, and Apple Pens. Once these are set up with the TVs, we will provide our staff with additional staff development so they feel comfortable using the technology as a teaching tool. Our teacher representatives on the technology team will also assist grade level members with the use of the tools. We thank you for the generous PTO Legacy Fund. We know that this classroom innovation will truly catapult us in becoming a Future Ready School.
We are also working on creating a Maker Space for our school. In talking to District teachers who do staff development around technology tools, I have learned that our staff needs to first be comfortable using the technology tools with their classes and understand how the technology tool could be used to teach to the Common Core Standards such as Engineering Design in Science. Then we could consider purchasing those technology tools for our Maker Space. This approach guarantees the actual use of the items that we purchase. To support this effort, the District’s Teaching and Learning department will provide us with the technology staff developers and the substitute costs to allow all teachers on the same grade level to observe how the tech tool is taught to a group of their own students. The two staff developers, Mr. Bundy, who runs the Future Bus, and Mr. Samuelson, our Innovation Strategist, will be available to also support individual teachers in their classrooms. Teachers have a wide range of tech tools/gadgets they could choose from including Little Bits for music or electronic circuits, Lego Robotics, Ozobots, etc. Based on what we learn from these experience, we will decide on the items we would like to include in our Maker Space. This is such an exciting opportunity for our students and staff. Thank you to all for supporting the School Bond and thank you to our Teaching and Learning Department for all their investment in our school.
Have a wonderful long weekend! I will keep you posted on additional make up days due to weather. I am hoping that this winter weather will be over soon.
Warm regards,
Sheila Baumgardner

Luau Dance
The Luau Dance party was a great hit despite the precarious weather. I would like to thank Kristin Hamann and Heather Lambert for co-chairing the event. Special thanks also to Wendy Turinsky, Melica Ellerbrook, Daniel Choi, Malachi(Dan’s son), Angie Karim, Melica Ellerbrook, Aleathea Perry, Laura Blattner, Nicole Dewey, Kim Sanders, Linda Bender, Jessica Styles, Alyssa Nelson and Alex Boschma. Mr. Debusk, Mrs. Delong and Mrs. Musser, thank you for teaching our students their fun dance numbers. I had a blast!
Walk and Bike to School
As we are halfway through the school year, I want to ask you to reinforce with your children some safety tips as they walk or bike to or from school and in our neighborhoods.
• Discuss safe routes to school.
• Walk to school in pairs or groups. There is safety in numbers.
• Do not talk to strangers.
• Immediately report any suspicious activity or person to an adult at home or school.
• Ask your child the 3 W’s: who are they with; where they will be; when they will be home
We take our children's concerns seriously. We work cooperatively with our law enforcement partners to investigate concerning incidents or individuals. We appreciate your partnership to ensure all of our students are safe.
