What's Happening at Log
Return to Five Day Instruction
Beginning on April 19, students will follow the schedule pictured above, which includes a 1:30 pm dismissal time (grab & go lunch) for all students and daily office hours.
Thank you to all those who have completed the survey and let us know the plan for your student(s). If you have not yet filled out the survey to let us know whether your student(s) will be fully in person or fully virtual, please do so immediately so we can plan adequately for all students. Please note that beginning on Monday, students must adhere to the five-day schedule you select and cannot move back and forth between virtual and in-person instruction. Students who are scheduled to report to school but remain virtual will be marked absent without parental notification.
Finally, please make sure that your phone number and email address in Skyward is up to date. With increased numbers of students in the building, greater contact tracing is more likely if and when we have a positive COVID case. It is most helpful to have accurate parent/guardian contact information for purposes of communication.
Please remind your students of the importance of continuing to wear masks, physically distancing, and following hallway directional signs.
We appreciate your support and look forward to a healthy and successful Spring!
Food Service With Our New Schedule
Due to the condensed schedule without lunches, bagged snacks will be offered to all students who are present. Snack breaks will be built into students' block classes after first block. Additionally, bagged lunches will be provided and available to all to students as they leave the building at 1:30 PM.
*IMPORTANT- Transportation asks that students DO NOT eat on the buses when they are provided with them at the end of the day.
Athletic Updates With Our New Schedule
As previously noted, beginning on Monday, April 19, 2021, Log College will be moving to a five-day schedule. In-person students will be dismissed from school at 1:30 pm, receiving a “grab and go” lunch on the way out of the building.
Below are some important reminders and changes regarding athletics:
Practice start times will remain at 3:00
Home game start times will remain at 3:15
Student athletes may not remain in the building following dismissal and are responsible for transportation back to school for practice and games. The only occasion when athletes may remain after school is when they are scheduled for away games.
Our late bus service will continue to pick up students following practice at 4:15.

From Our School Nurse
Parents, we need your help to keep our students safe and healthy.
As Pennsylvania and surrounding states are revising and lifting mitigations orders, please continue to wear your mask, social distance and wash your hands. Continue to do the Covid 5 every morning prior to coming to school.
If any of the questions below are YES, please keep your child home from school, contact attendance, the nurse and attend virtually.
Do they have a temperature of greater than 100.3?
Do they have an altered taste or smell?
Have they been exposed to someone with a lab-confirmed case of COVID 19?
Are they awaiting test results of a recent COVID 19 test?
Do they have an unexplained cough or shortness of breath?
Thank You to all the parents and guardians that have sent in your child's physical or dental form. If you have not done so, please continue to send in completed Physical & Dental Forms.
All students in Grade 6 need a physical examination, this should include the required immunizations for 7th grade (Tdap & Meningococcal). The physical examination form needs to be completed by your child’s doctor and returned to the school nurse.
Students in Grade 7 need a dental examination. The dental examination form needs to be completed by your child’s dentist and returned to the school nurse.
PCCY (Public Citizens for Children & Youth) is sponsoring Give Kids a Smile for children 18 and under who don’t have insurance or have not seen a dentist in the last six months. Dates are March 29th - April 2nd. Sign Ups are now available.

Attendance Procedures
Attendance letters are automatically generated by the Skyward student management system on a weekly basis, based on student attendance reports. As we move through the year, the number of attendance letters generated increases a good deal. There are currently four types of letters generated weekly:
- 3-days of Illegal Absences
- 4-days of Illegal Absences
- 6-days of Illegal Absences
- 10 days of Cumulative Absences
Illegal absences simply mean that there is no accompanying parent note or doctor's note to excuse the absence. All absences default to illegal in Skyward until a note is received by our attendance office.
The three-day letter is considered a "warning" letter. After the four-day threshold is met, our school social worker will contact families to set up a SAIP (Student Attendance Improvement Plan) Meeting, where the absences are discussed and a plan to improve attendance is created.
Once the six-day threshold is reached, other measures can be taken, as a student is considered "habitually truant" under the law. These COULD include fines in district magisterial court, Children and Youth involvement, or attendance diversion programs.
The 10-day letter is a cumulative letter meaning it counts both legal and illegal absences are counted. Once a 10-day letter has been generated, a 'licensed practitioner of the healing arts' must provide a note. That can include a doctor, nurse, nurse practitioner, etc.
Absence notes must be turned in within three (3) days of your child's return to school. Absences will remain unexcused until notes or turned in or if the three day window is exceeded. Absence excuse notes can also be emailed to Log College at the following address: lcattendance@centennialsd.org
For family trips during the school year, a Family Trip Request Form must be submitted to the Principal at least three (3) days prior to your trip. All requests submitted less than three (3) days prior will be denied.

Athletic Eligibility
With our Spring sports season in full swing, eligibility reports are run weekly on our student athletes to ensure that they are meeting the academic standards to participate on our teams. In addition to academic eligibility, students must meet attendance and behavioral guidelines for continued participation in PIAA (Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association) sports. PIAA, which is the governing body of school sports in the Commonwealth encourages the ideal of the ‘student athlete,’ which we wholeheartedly support. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Swartwood, Athletic Director, or Mr. Drago, Assistant Principal.
Inclement Weather Guidelines
While winter is behind us, Mother Nature can always throw us a curveball with the weather. As such delays and cancellations due to weather conditions are always possible (think back to the wind storm on Halloween night in 2019!). Please stay tuned to local news outlets, Centennial SD's social media accounts, and Log College's social media accounts for updates on delays and cancellations. Alerts will also be sent out via phone and text alert, and eAlerts from Dr. Bedden. In the event of a two or three hour delay, abbreviated schedules will be followed. Those schedules will be communicated out by individual schools.
Log College Middle School
Log College Middle School opened its doors in September 1967 as a Junior High School serving seventh and eighth grade students. The school is named after the original school in Warminster, “Log College” established in 1727 by William Tennent, one of the original trustees of Princeton University. The school’s mascot is the Colonial in honor of the first Log College.
Log College became a Middle School in 1991 educating sixth, seventh and eighth grade students. In 2000 the school was recognized by the US Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon School. Log College currently serves approximately 600 sixth through eighth graders.
