Message from Principal

Dear Saint Ambrose Parents,

Thank you to Josie Bertsch and our student musicians, who performed a great band concert last night. We are fortunate to have a strong band program at Saint Ambrose.

Next week, we celebrate our 8th grade graduates on Thursday evening with a 7pm Mass and ceremony. We are proud of the class of 22!

Staffing Update

I would like to thank Rhesa Freeman for sharing her talent as a middle school science teacher with us for 10 years. Rhesa has accepted a position as an Assistant Product Manager for Groves Learning Organization. Ms. Freeman's commitment to students, infectious love of science, and strong faith has served us well at Saint Ambrose. She has inspired many students to think about the how and why of our world. We are grateful that she started our tradition of the 7th grade Eagle Bluff trip which is a highlight for many students. Join me in thanking Ms. Freeman!

I would also like to thank Emily McClean for 2 great years as our grade 7 English and Literature teacher. Emily will be teaching high school English. We are grateful for her willingness to share her love of reading, her hard work and her flexibility in two years of pandemic education! We wish her the very best as she begins a new chapter.

Negative Lunch Balances

I know free school lunch has been a huge help for many families this year. Students who get seconds and extras are still being charged for those options, and many families owe lunch money. Please check your balance and make a payment if needed.

Last Day of School

You are invited to join us for a 2:00 pm Mass to end this amazing school year together in prayer.

When: Wednesday, June 1
Time: Arrive at 1:40 for 2pm Mass

If you are attending Mass, we ask that you pick up your children in their classrooms from 1:40-1:55 and proceed to Mass in the church.

If you are unable to attend, your child will sit with their teacher for the Mass.

Immediately following Mass, families may enjoy a cool treat by the playground. Younger siblings are welcome. We are asking all families depart by 3:30 allowing for buses to transport those students that still require transportation. We would like to know your child's plan for dismissal that day. Please complete this form by Friday, May 27.

Lord, teach me to be generous,

to serve you as you deserve,

to give and not to count the cost,

to fight and not to heed the wounds,

to toil and not to seek for rest,

to labor and not to look for any reward,

save that of knowing that I do your holy will.

Blessings on your weekend,

Summer Garden Help

This summer, we are looking for families to help maintain the school garden. Each week, we would need a family to stop by either on the sign-up date or the day after to weed and harvest any produce. You may keep any produce that you collect! We also have a variety of garden tools available for you to use if needed.

Thanks for your support!

Yearbook Orders - There is Still Time....

The link for ordering yearbooks on line has closed. Fear not, you will still be able to get a yearbook. If you would like to order a yearbook(s), please send $20.00 per yearbook to the office with student names indicated. Yearbooks will be delivered in late May.

Summer Used Uniform Sale - Mark your Calendars

Mark your calendars for another pop-up pre-owned uniform sale from 7/12-7/14 (summer school week). Items will be $2/ea. If you are cleaning closets, gently used uniforms may be dropped off in the office anytime through the end of the year.

There will also be samples of Donald’s uniform items for trying out sizes to help with any online ordering you plan to do.

Parent Input Form

Parent Input Form for 2022/2023

As part of our class placement procedure, we would like to offer parents the opportunity to submit information about their child that they believe would help us in making class placement decisions.

Class placements will be based on educational data, recommendations from licensed staff, the creation of balanced classroom rosters and the attempt to find the best “fit” for students based upon professional judgment. This process is not intended to allow parents to request a specific classroom teacher or placement of specific students in their child’s classroom.

School Uniforms

  • We get feedback from parents that we are too stringent on uniform enforcement, and that we are too lax. Our objective with the uniform is to be uniform. Please support us as we enforce the guidelines. There are a number of students who need haircuts, whose shoes are not in compliance ( black and/or white), and some whose skirts are too short. Please check on your child's school uniform before sending them to school next week.
  • Next week, we'll send notices to families whose students are out of compliance so you can make needed adjustments.
  • There is nothing personal about enforcement; our goal is to look sharp and be ready to learn in our uniform uniforms. Thank you!

Has your student had Megan McEnaney as their 2nd-grade teacher?

Well, she's getting married this summer and she would love to have her former students be part of the day! Follow this link or send her an email for more information
Big picture

Summer School

We offer a summer enrichment program for students entering kindergarten through grade six. There are a variety of classes in a wide range of topics including STEM, computer programming/coding, mathematics, science, reading, cooking, art, lego, computer games and much more. This is considered an enrichment experience and students find it fun and exciting to explore topics and subjects that may not be a part of a typical curriculum.

Courses will be offered Monday through Friday from July 11-15th. Students may take from one to three courses. All courses will be 1.5 hours in length. Lunch will be provided.

CALENDAR

We have completed the calendar for the upcoming school year. 2022-2023 School Calendar

Free Chromebooks

The school is offering a limited number of Dell 3120 Chromebooks free to families who might be interested. These units have reached the end of their predetermined life cycles and will accept no further operating system updates from Google. As such, the school can no longer use them. They still boot up, they still attach to wifi, they still hold a charge from their AC adapters, and they've been extracted from our management environment. They could potentially be useful to some families. These units are being distributed with the understanding that they are as-is, and no technical support of any kind can be provided. Please contact Tim Demco at tdemco@saintambroseschool.org if you are interested in obtaining a chromebook.

Lunch - The USDA will be providing free lunches for ALL students for the 2021-2022 school year. First meal and milk will be free of charge. There is a charge for seconds ($2.00) and milk (.60) taken with cold lunch. Look for lunch account information in the back-to-school folder.

Even though school lunches are of no charge this year, if you feel your family would qualify for free and reduced lunch, we ask that you fill out the application. By filling out this application, Saint Ambrose receives funding and will benefit the family as well. Please print this application and return the completed application to the school office.

Communication from school:

  • Log in to Sycamore to update any changes to your contact information. Download the Sycamore Education app to quickly access lunch menu, calendar and other essential school information.

School Emergency Closing Notifications -

This school year we will continue to use our Sycamore System for text and email notifications for school closures and delays due to inclement weather. You may also check Kare 11 and WCCO for notification that District 833 is closed - if they are closed we will be closed.

Make sure to update Sycamore with your current phone numbers and emails as soon as possible.

VIRTUS Training Information for Volunteers

As we did last year, and in attempts to mitigate COVID, we will not be inviting volunteers into the building. While there will be exceptions to this rule, we feel this is the best practice at this time. However, we are encouraging you to go through the process so once we are ready to welcome volunteers back into the building, you are ready to volunteer should you wish to do so. VIRTUS Training

If you have not re-credential and have gotten an e-mail to that effect, or you know you have not re-credentialed in the last three years, you will want to do that here. Re-credential for VIRTUS
