Read Across America Week Activities

This week we are celebrating READING! The students have had many fun activities throughout the week, culminating in Pajama Day for Terrier Live on Friday 3/5.

The Reading Festival will be taking place virtually this year. We will have an opening ceremony followed by students accessing our Reading Festival website. The website will contain literacy activities as well as information on MVUSD programs and resources. Please invite your students and plan to attend the opening ceremony which will begin at 9:30 a.m. Click Here to access the Reading Festival website.

Student Registration and Recognition

Students will register on the Reading Festival website. Students who participate in the festival will be awarded a certificate and a book. We will send these to the site for you to hand out during Grab ‘n’ Go lunch.


We will have raffles throughout the day. Students will be asked to fill out a google form in which they will enter at least 3 golden bookmark passwords. Students who submit their forms will be entered in the raffles. ONLY third grade students are eligible for the raffles.

There are four raffles scheduled throughout the day. We have 4 bikes, graciously donated by Horace Mann Insurance, to give away again this year as well as other great prizes from our community partners.

On Thursday, 3/18 from 6pm-7pm we will be hosting a VIRTUAL Open House. This will be in 3 20-minute sessions.

Session 1: 6:00-6:20pm Meet with the Principal/Assistant Principal

Session 2: 6:20-6:40pm Session 1 with Classroom Teachers (use their zoom link)

It's that time of year for our annual English Learner Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC). This will be given through Zoom this year and will take place after your student's regular instructional day. Your child will only be given this assessment if they are an English Learner.

The purpose of this assessment is to see if your student is proficient in Reading, Writing, Listening, and Speaking. If they are proficient in these areas, they can be Reclassified out of the EL Program.

Your student's teacher will be given the schedule and they will let you know when your student will test. Your student will also be provided the zoom link for the assessment. Prior to their assessment, please make sure they have had a good night's sleep and have eaten a healthy lunch so can be ready to do their best.

Dual Language Immersion Program Informational Meetings

The Dual Language Immersion (DLI) program provides students with the opportunity to attain both Spanish and English language proficiency.

DLI reflects the 90:10 model where the instructional day consists of 90% Spanish and 10% English in Kindergarten. The percentage of English instruction increases by 10% each year through third grade. In fourth through twelfth grades, students receive instruction in both English and Spanish at a 50/50 percentage.

Interested parents for all students entering kindergarten in 2021-22 must attend one of the following meetings:

Nurturing Parenting Workshop

Nurturing Parenting is an interactive workshop offered by Riverside University Health System that will help you better understand your role as a parent. Help in strengthening your relationship and bond with your child. Learn new strategies and skills to improve your child’s concerning behavior. Develop self-care, empathy, and self-awareness.

March 3 - Ways to Enhance Positive Brain Development in Children and Teens

March 8 - Communicating with Respect

All workshops are 3:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. via Microsoft Teams

The Parent Project

Thursdays, February 1 - April 22

6:00-8:00 p.m.

This program is composed of 10 weekly sessions that offer straightforward, practical step-by-step action plans for parents raising teenagers.


  • Increase communication
  • Reduce family conflict
  • Reduce inappropriate behavior
  • Improve school attendance and performance

Strengthening Families

Strengthening Families is a 6-week interactive course that will focus on the Five Protective Factors. The Five Protective Factors are skills that help build family strengths, improve child development, and manage stress.

The classes will begin March 5, 2021 from 1-3:00 p.m. via Zoom. To participate and register for the class, please register by calling (951) 358-5862 by February 26.

In addition, the RCOE Wellness Center is a place for students, staff, and families, to find resources and tools in order to practice strategies for coping during challenging times.

Homeless Support - Riverside County Department of Public Social Services

The Housing Support Program provides support to eligible CalWORKs customers when they are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. Assistance may include support for:

  • Housing outreach and placement
  • Landlord recruitment
  • Utility assistance
  • Hotel/motel vouchers
  • Rental assistance
  • Security deposits
  • Credit repair
  • Case management
