Savvy Students
Winter Newsletter Wyman/Holden Libraries
Welcome to 2018!
The end of 2017 brought closure to a lot of the projects we were working on during our first trimester in Library classes. Please join me in celebrating the students' accomplishments.
Fact or Fiction
First grade students explored nonfiction books to find facts, then used their imaginations to create a statement that was pure fiction. The videos were created using Adobe Spark. More examples can be found on my library page here.

Bullies and Cyberbullies
Second grade students wrote and performed puppet shows about bullys, friendship and caring. Recorded using Do Ink and a green screen, edited in imovie. More samples are on display here.

Voki Book Reviews
Fourth grade students read books, wrote reviews, and then practiced their typing skills by creating Voki characters that gave a voice to their typed scripts. Lots of examples found here.
Coding in Library
All students are learning the basics of coding through code.org lessons taught in Library this year. Students are encouraged to share solutions and help each other solve problems by being persistent.
Getting Organized
All students are learning to organize their ideas with storyboards and online shared documents. They work in pairs and groups to complete projects and learn how to solve problems.
Book Reviews
Sixth grade students have just finished up their book reviews, which are displayed on our We Love To Read blog. They read, wrote, typed, and created links to author pages for all the many books reviewed on the blog. Younger students were encouraged to read and comment on the reviews, to which the 6th graders reply. This starts a great conversation about reading!
Tuesday Tech With Tara
Tuesday I invite teachers to have their lunch in the library. We have covered many tech topics this year: Google Classroom, Docs, Forms, Drive, Gmail, Kahoot, Snagit, Screencastify, and Symbaloo. What a great group of dedicated faculty members at Wyman, willing to learn, ask questions, share solutions and try new things.
