A SEAT AT THE TABLE
On November 2, Education Week convened a panel of educational experts in an online discussion about How We Can Maximize Student Learning. The event included international education experts; Peter DewItt and John Hattie along with a teacher coach and Soledad’s own Dr. Limary Gutiérrez! Dr. Gutiérrez represented our district well and provided many important insights. You can view the panel at A Seat at the Table.
Rotary Dictionary Distribution
Over the past two weeks, the members of the Soledad Rotary Club have distributed dictionaries to over 300 3rd grade students at our five elementary schools. The presentations, led by Soledad Rotary President (and Board Vice President) Ivan Ibarra Mora have included a discussion of literacy and a look at the longest word in the English language (1,109 letters!).
RED RIBBON WEEK
There were numerous events to celebrate Red Ribbon Week. Congratulations to all sites for the many activities reminding students to stay away from drugs and alcohol. At Frank Ledesma School, each student wrote a health choice message on a link which was attached to the links of classmates to form a paper chain. On October 28, students gathered around the flagpole at the center of campus to link each class chain on to the whole school chain.
ROTARY & ROTARY INTERACT
On November 3, the Soledad Rotary and Soledad High School Interact Club held its first joint meeting of the year. The meeting, which also included members of the Hartnell College Rotaract Club focused on the importance of community service and addressed challenges which our community faces.
SOLEDAD HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL
Congratulations to our Soledad High School Girls Volleyball team. Under Coach Alicia Dominguez, the team finished first in league and made the Central Coast Section playoffs. The played St. Frances in the first round playoff a game on October 29, and lost. We are proud of our team!

MCOE's Inside Education Cohort participants experienced an interactive tour of Career Technical Education (CTE) programs throughout Monterey County, including the Salinas Union High School District's Mission Trails ROP Center, where participants learned to utilize construction and landscaping equipment. The group also visited Marina High School's culinary and medical CTE programs, as well as MCOE's Bob Hoover Academy flight program.
