Welcome back to school!
Welcome back to another school year! It has been wonderful seeing everyone again, with some added new faces. The best part of this time of year, of course is having all of the students back! It never ceases to amaze me how much I realize I've missed them over the summer. I have had the opportunity to visit all of the classes and sit with students at lunch, and it's been wonderful catching up with all of their summer activities. It sounds like everyone had a great summer.
I will be creating a monthly newsletter that informs you of events going on, as well as, decisions being made at our school and district level. Because we are trying to follow our district's lead, we are going as "green" as possible. The newsletter will not be sent home in paper form, but will be emailed via our IC massager, posted on our school's webpage, and linked to our FB account. Please check in any of those locations to keep up to date with the happenings at New Haven. Of course, if you ever have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us.
Basic Information
The start of the school year has been good, especially after the first day and figuring out all of our transportation changes. We have enrolled almost 100 additional students this summer so our transportation department has been very busy working and reworking routing. So far, things have been pretty smooth with arrival and dismissal.
School times
Just as a reminder, our office hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, with someone answering phones until 4:30. Buses begin dropping students off about 8:15 to 8:30. Students who are wanting to eat breakfast at school have the option beginning at 8:00 when the doors open. Students are released to classrooms at 8:30, and those arriving between 8:00 and 8:30 are either in the cafeteria or the gym with adult supervision. Dismissal announcements begin about 3:30, and buses have been averaging send off at about 3:45-3:50. Parent pickup continues to be in the back of our building between the multi-purpose room and gym. Parent pick up forms are required.
The instructional day begins at 8:40 and ends at 3:40. Any student coming to school after 8:40 is considered tardy, and needs to receive a classroom slip from the office.
Our school number is 859-384-5325. Teacher's do have voicemail that you have access to when calling the school. Phone calls are not permitted to be sent through to classroom's during instructional times. Teacher's do have access to email, and often is a very easy tool to use to get a hold of your child's teacher.
Sharing information-
We want to keep you informed with as much as we possibly can. Teachers &/or grade levels are required to send home newsletters keeping you up to date with instruction and events going on in the classrooms. Newsletters should come home either weekly or bi-monthly (depending on the grade level). Most teacher's also have their own webpages, which you can access via our school webpage, or they may have remind accounts set up to stay in constant communication.
Our school has a variety of venues for you to also receive information. The links are embedded below, but we have a webpage, facebook page, twitter account, and we send out messages via email, phone, or text. We try to accommodate all needs to make sure that communication is happening.
Communication
I stress to our staff that communication is essential to the success of our students, but it does go both ways. PLEASE reach out to your child's teacher and communicate anything that you feel is pertinent to their success. There really isn't anything too insignificant to share! Relationships make all the difference, and communicating regularly is so important to the success of all of our kids. We spend a lot of time with each of our students, and can often tell when something is a little off, but may not be able to nail it down. Sharing of this information from home to school and vis versa can make the world of a difference for a lot of our students. Because communication is so vital it is all of our responsibilities to stay connected. Technology makes that even easier for us with email, etc., but feel free to drop a note in your child's agenda or even leave a message for any of us.
Volunteering
We follow a strict policy regarding adults volunteering. We welcome volunteers, but also see the need to protect all of our students as well. In order to volunteer at New Haven you must 1) have an approved background check and 2) complete the volunteer orientation training (on-line) http://www.tildee.com/DiFKOb - You can also find the link on our webpage along the left hand side.
If you think you would like to volunteer or even go on a field trip with your child this year, you must have this in place. Please do not wait until the last minute, as the background checks are state controlled and we have no influence on how long it takes to get them back. If you do not have an approved background check on file a the time of your event / field trip there will be no exceptions made.
