SAS Update
February 7, 2020
Final Volleyball Home Stand
Our final home volleyball games will take place on Saturday at Trinity Lutheran, 2505 Indiana Avenue, right down the street from the Lansing Library. Please come and support our student athletes: 4th/5th plays @10, 8th plays @11, and 6th/7th plays @Noon. Admission is $2 for adults, $1 for students and St. Ann faculty, and $4 for a family; concessions will be available. Please wear your finest St. Ann spiritwear or green and gold. All 7th graders will receive free admission to Homecoming, as they won the January attendance contest. Thank you for all your support--it really means a lot to the girls when they see the home bleachers full of fans!
TOMORROW AT STRACKS!
SHOP AT STRACKS ON DOUBLE CREDIT DAY & KEEP GATHERING RECEIPTS!
Collect Strack & VanTil Food Market register receipts dated between September 1, 2019 and March 2, 2020 to help St. Ann earn FREE educational rewards! Every classroom has a Collection Envelope, and we will be tallying the value of the receipts turned in. The class that brings in the most will win a prize! Our cutoff for receiving your receipts is March 6, as they have to be processed for submission that next week. We are doing great-please keep it up!
One Week Remains in Our BINGO Game!
Everyone should have received a Social Media & More BINGO card in their Thursday envelope last week, and they are due back to the office by Valentine's Day. Complete any BINGO--across, down, or diagonal--and receive a service hour. Complete a cover-all of every square on the card, and receive FIVE service hours! Any class that has 100% parent participation--cards with verified BINGOs turned in by every family in the class-- will win a special treat!
THE WEEK AHEAD!
Scout Sunday
SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 9, 10:30 MASS
Please join us at 10:30 a.m. Mass where we will celebrate and honor the spirit of Scouting. All Girl, Cub, and Boy Scouts past and present are invited to dress in Class A uniform and participate. Immediately following Mass, we will take a group photo, and then Troop 276 will head to Manteno to spend time with the veterans at the Veterans Home. Thank you for all you do, Scouts and leaders!
TRIP Orders
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 10
It's not too late to order fun gift cards to give to your Valentines! Send your orders in with your student, and they will come back home to you on Thursday. Ask your friends and relatives to order through you, and watch those tuition credits grow!
HSA Meeting
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 10,
7:00 p.m. in EXTENDED DAY
Join us for the Daddy Daughter Dance wrap-up and the beginning of plans for a Mother/Son event. For several years, we have gone bowling, and it's been a great success! This event is in need of new leadership if it is to happen, so please step up if you want Moms/Sons to have something fun to do! Plus, attendance at this meeting will earn you an easy BINGO square AND a volunteer hour.
The Skating Party NUT card date was moved to MONDAY, FEBRUARY 10 due to the half day on the original date. If your student bought a ticket and has a NUT card, he or she may dress down today.
Our Food Drive Has Concluded
Thank you to everyone who sent in donations for the food drive. The final count will be announced next week--the Lansing Roundball Tournament finals are Monday night, and the winning school will be acknowledged before the game. Fingers crossed we can keep our streak going! Pictured here are the classroom totals as of Thursday, Feb. 6. A giving spirit is alive and well at St. Ann School!
Send Candy or Flowers to Your Friends and Teachers!
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 10 & TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11
During Morning Assembly
Student Council members will be selling gummy-heart lollipop Candy-Grams for $1 each and single roses for $2 apiece next week. These will include a message from the sender, and will be delivered on Friday, Valentine's Day.
Parent Meetings
TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 11 IN THE EXTENDED DAY ROOM
6-7:00 p.m. or 7-8:00 p.m.
As you know, this year we implemented the iReady assessment/instructional tool at all grade levels K-8th at St. Ann School. Students were initially evaluated in September, which results we shared with you back in the fall. After a trimester of academic interventions and differentiated instruction that included before- and after-school tutoring, as well as daily pull-outs for both remediation and enrichment, we reassessed the students. We are very excited to share with you that scores increased universally across the board, not only for those students who had room for improvement, but also among those who were already higher achieving!
We will hold two iReady Parent Update sessions next week if you would like to come and have the results explained and questions answered. Please bring your students' individual assessments that the teachers sent home this week. We will meet on Tuesday, February 11 in the Extended Day Room (door C3)—one session will be at 6:00 p.m. and the next gathering will take place at 7:00 p.m. Please come to whichever meeting suits your schedule better. We look forward to seeing you!
Spring Soccer Registration
WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
in the Extended Day Room (Door C3)
Forget winter, it's time to look forward to spring! The St. Ann/Lansing Soccer Club will be signing up members for the U8 (at least 1st Grade), U10, U12, and U14 teams. Registration is $90, plus $30 for a jersey (which players keep). New players should bring a copy of their birth certificate and all players need to bring a small picture for their ID cards (like a school photo). Questions may be directed to Jesse Terrazas at 708 257-9450.
Casino NIGHT UPDATES
Our next planning meeting is WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 12, 7:00 p.m. at J.J. KELLEY'S. Earn an hour for attending the meeting. Earn many more hours by donating, securing sponsorships, or volunteering at the event! Sign up here.
Event tickets are now on sale after Masses and in the Parish Office, and you received an order form in a past Thursday Envelope. Tickets are selling rapidly, so you'd better act soon if you want to attend! They are $50 each and include dinner, open bar, dancing, and lots of fun, including cash casino gaming: poker, craps, roulette, and blackjack. There will be a prize for the class that has the highest percentage of parent participation (attending, donating, working, they all count).
Don't forget to ask your employer or other business contacts to sponsor our evening. Any parents who bring in at least $1,000 in sponsorships will have their entire volunteer credit fulfilled, just like that! Donor letters and sponsorship forms were in last week's Thursday envelope, and extra copies or electronic versions are available for download on our website.
PRACTICE PRESCHOOL CONTINUES!
Do you or someone you know have a child who will be three years old by September 1? It's not too late for them to attend the remaining "Practice Preschool" sessions at St. Ann during the month of February to get a taste of what it will be like to go to school. We have three flexible options left, and you are welcome to choose up to two of them! Practice Preschool will meet on Thursdays, February 13 from 4-5:00 p.m. and February 20 & 27 from 6-7:00 p.m. in the PreK room. Attendees will have the opportunity to become familiar with the space and the teachers, and play and learn alongside current students.

DON'T FORGET, YOU HAVE UNTIL THE END OF MARCH TO PUT IN ALL 15 SERVICE HOURS AND EARN BACK YOUR $300 VOLUNTEER DEPOSIT!
Any hours worked after March 31 (like the school picnic and the Good Neighbor Day Parade) will be credited toward your 2020-21 school year volunteer requirement. Some opportunities between now and then:
This year we are excited to be partnering with a fun, free, and truly easy fundraiser called Shoparoo! Schools nationwide are already earning hundreds and even thousands every year through Shoparoo and it’s a great opportunity for us to really make a difference this year!
Shoparoo is school fundraising made easy: the free app turns pictures of your everyday shopping receipts into cash donations and sweepstakes entries for our school! Yep, it’s that simple. No more cutting labels, selling door to door, or time-consuming coordinating. All you have to do is shop as you normally do, snap pictures of your receipts with the app, and voila Just shop, snap, earn!
Get started today:
1. Download the free Shoparoo app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store
2. Select our school from the list and start taking pictures of your receipts - shop anywhere, buy anything!
3. You can even select a grade to support and have fun with grade competitions!
There’s no limit to how much money we can raise with Shoparoo - the more supporters, the more we will raise for our school. Schools with just 40 supporters are earning an average of $1,000 every year. That’s free, easy money that we could be fundraising too. Check out shoparoo.com to learn more about this awesome app!
Thank you for your support!
Earn a 75% Tax Credit by Donating to a State Tax Credit Scholarship!
If you or anyone you know likes to take advantage of the tax credits you can get from year-end giving, please refer to the Archdiocese of Chicago's Tax Credit Scholarship information page. Not only will donations to the program made before February 29 (or until the fund is depleted) through Empower Illinois be TRIPLED by the 2-for-1 matching program, but your entire Illinois state tax liability could be eliminated! That means a $1,000 donation gets you a $750 tax credit, and becomes $3,000 in scholarship funding! Plus, donors can designate which school receives their funds, so the money can all stay right here at St. Ann in scholarships to help our families. Print a fact sheet here to give to your loved ones.
Weekly School Masses
We attend Mass together as a school community most Wednesday mornings in the Church at 9:00 a.m. Please join us any time!
