Veteran's Day Virtual Assembly
Veteran's Day is coming soon. Our fourth graders are creating a virtual assembly for Veteran's Day this year. We are planning to add a small presentation to it. If there is a veteran in your child's life, please send a picture to younginfo@sdale.org. Include the veteran's name, student's name and student's grade. All photos need to be sent in by Monday, November 8th. If you remember having a slide in last year's presentation and want to use the same one, email me the name and I will look for it. The virtual Veteran's Day assembly will be posted on our social media and in a newsletter.
Flu Shots this week!
Student flu shot clinic: Thursday November 4th, 2021 in the morning. Students that sign up will receive their flu shot during the school day.
Please complete and sign the two flu shot permission forms, front and back, and return to Nurse Amy as soon as possible. If you have questions or need a flu packet, please email Nurse Amy at aschultz@sdale.org.

Notes from the Counselor- Empathy
November’s character word is empathy. Empathy is being able to understand how someone else is feeling. At the end of the month, each teacher will be choosing one student from their class who will receive a character award for showing empathy.

Practice It!
Help your child practice considering the needs of others. When you are watching TV or reading books, ask your child what he/she thinks the characters are feeling, and what they might need in that situation. What could you say or do to help that person?
Talk About It!
What does it mean to be empathetic and why is it important?
Is it easy or difficult for you to have empathy for others?
Tell me about a time when you were empathetic towards someone else.
Tell me about a time when someone else was empathetic towards you.
What would the world be like if people considered the feelings of others more often?
How can you tell how someone else may be feeling?
How can you tell what someone else may need?
