The Holocaust was a genocide in which approximately six million Jews were killed by the Nazi regime. Holocaust is a Greek word meaning "sacrifice by fire." Germans were deemed "racially superior" while Jews were deemed "racially inferior." Over six million Jews were killed within twelve years. Two out of every three European Jews were killed as part of the "Final Solution." Jewish people were classified as a danger to Germany.

End of The War

World War II ended on May 8th, 1945, the day after the Germans surrendered. Soviet forces announced their victory day on May 9th. Between 1948 and 1951, almost 700,000 Jews emigrated to Israel.
