Updates From Dr. Stabler
March 22, 23, & 24: Universal Remote Learning Days
Universal Remote Learning Days
All FCS elementary schools will be in Universal Remote Learning on Monday, March 22 – Wednesday, March 24 to support the district’s efforts to provide vaccination opportunities for all school personnel. Teachers will be posting additional details in their messages. We look forward to “seeing” everyone on TEAMS.
UPDATE: Originally, ALL students were going to be in Universal Remote Learning the week following Spring Break. At Thursday night’s board meeting, the district revised the plan to match the vaccine appointments for school personnel. Students will now be in Universal Remote Learning for Monday, April 12-Wednesday, April 14. We look forward to seeing students back in the building for face-to-face learning on Thursday, April 15. Please click here for more information.
In-Progress Report Cards
Student In-Progress Report Cards are now available on the Parent and Student Portals. For instructions on how to access your child’s Quarter 3 In-Progress Report, please click here. The In-Progress Report is a snapshot of the student’s grades currently in the semester. The grades will continue to average until the completion of the semester, at which time students will receive their final report card. The In-Progress Report will look very similar to the standard report card. Please do not hesitate to reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions.
Spring Registration for the 2021-2022 School Year
Spring Registration will be held on March 31-April 1 for NEW students (Kindergarten through 5th grade) who will be joining us at Abbotts Hill in August. Registration will be conducted all online. If your child is currently enrolled at Abbotts Hill, there are no actions needed for enrollment for next school year. If you know of any families new to the area or meet a new family over the summer, please encourage them to enroll as soon as possible! For more information, please visit our website by clicking here.
Meal Kits for Face-to-Face Students (April 5-9)
To ensure children have access to essential nutrition over Spring Break, April 5-9, Fulton County School Nutrition is providing FREE Meals to students at our school. Your student’s meal kit will contain 10 meals, 5 breakfasts and 5 lunches, to be enjoyed on the days that students are out of school. These meals are FREE for all face-to-face students. Meals will be distributed through our Bus Lane on Thursday, April 1 from 8:30- 9:30AM. Look for a form to come home with your face-to-face student on Thursday, March 25th. This form is due back on Friday, March 26th.
Georgia Milestones
We have frequently been asked the following question: If my child does not take Georgia Milestones, will there be any impact on my child’s grades, placement, and/or ability to be promoted to the next grade level? Answer: Georgia Milestones is designed to provide information about how well students are mastering the state-adopted content standards. We are offering, and highly encourage, this testing opportunity for all students; however, there are no repercussions or consequences if your child does not participate. If you refuse testing, it will have no impact on end-of-year grades or next year, as it relates to promotion and retention. Please see below for the district assessment schedule for face-to-face testing during the normal school day:
K-2 Textbook Adoption
Our district is in the final phases of adopting a new textbook series for Reading and Language Arts for Kindergarten through 2nd grade. The textbook options have been narrowed to two resources: Benchmark Workshop and Wonders. There will be an extended public review of the materials at each school. Parents and teachers are invited to review the two resources and complete the electronic survey located on the district website. Materials for the two textbook series will be set up in the front entryway of Abbotts Hill Elementary for public review through March 26. The selection of the textbook resource will be recommended to the FCS school board in April, with a final decision made in May. For additional details, please click here.
Fulton County Schools COVID-19 Information Site
The FCS COVID-19 site provides updates regarding resources, cases, positive trend rates, and pediatric reports. For the latest information on COVID-19 in Fulton County, please click here to access the site.
Fulton County Board of Health COVID-19 Reporting Site
The Fulton County Board of Health and Fulton County Schools have developed an on-line portal for FCS parents/guardians to report student COVID-19 related cases. The portal has been updated to include Spanish, Korean, and Chinese language options. FCS parent/guardians will find a dropdown at the top right for translations. Please make a report to the FCBOH when your student is COVID-19 positive, has a pending COVID-19 test result, or has been in direct contact with a COVID-19 positive person. Also, please use this resource for official reporting rather than alerting the school and/or teacher. If you must engage the school/teacher, please do so after you have made an official report to the FCBOH. Lastly, to ensure the protection of our school community, please do not allow your child to attend school or school-sponsored events when he/she is ill and/or has any of the above COVID-19 concerns. Please click here for more details and consider posting this document in a visible location, i.e. the refrigerator, for easy access. www.fultonschools.org/ReportCOVID.

Student Success Skills
Focus- Social Emotional Learning- Wants and Needs
Some things in life are things that we want like we might want to watch a certain movie or we might want to hang out with a certain person in our life. Some things are needs and we all have them like going to the bathroom, eating, drinking water, and sleep. Understanding our wants and needs and understanding that wants are different from needs is important for our independence, self-advocacy, and self-knowledge. Knowing how and when to get access to our wants and needs is an important life skill.
Children are learning to ask for things that they want or need appropriately. Students were taught appropriate ways to ask for things such as getting the person’s attention, looking at the person, asking nicely, and saying “please”.
Suggested activities with your child:
⋅ When your child wants or needs something at home, remind him/her to ask for it appropriately and review the steps for asking for something the right way.
⋅ When your child says that he/she “needs” something that is actually a want and not a need, remind him/her to say that he/she “wants” that not “needs” that.
