Other News
(NEW) Fact Practice: It is encouraged that students practice their multiplication daily 10 min and/or 3-5 times a week for a longer stretch of time.
THEY WILL HAVE MULTIPLICAITON FACTS TESTS EVERY FRIDAY!!!
Math homework: As I mentioned at conferences, I have chosen to "flip" my classroom in math. Homework each night is a video of the next day's lesson. Students are expected to watch the lesson each night and follow along on their lesson page. I provide the information that is being practiced the day. Students will get classroom time to work independently and get help while working. Getting this lesson as homework has already shown "significant" gains in participation, effort, and accuracy on daily work. I highly encourage the video lesson be done each night! Thanks for patience and support!
Educreations Videos:
It can be downloaded on Ipads and/or you can log in with the use of the Internet by going to the login page for Educreations. Once logged in the videos will come up immediately.
Students will have to login using their own username and password.
McGraw-Hill Connected Resource: Parents/Students can log in to McGraw-Hill connected to view and use our Treasures Reading Book as well as our My Math Book, lessons, HW, videos, etc.
How do you log in? Go to http://connected.mcgraw-hill.com/connected/login.do

Reading: Anytime students can read 20+ minutes a night I encourage it!
Classroom Learning Time
Our Focus Points
Reading / Language Arts
Students are continuing to work through each of our Daily 5 rotations...Read to Someone, Teacher Time, Listening, Nonfiction Reading, and Writing. As well as learning "partner fluency" routines and using various reading skills/strategies we focused on throughout the week. Read to Self Time is a priority every day as well!
Math (Unit 6: Multiplication and Division)
Points of focus...multiplication and division patterns and relationships
Writing
Students continue to gather stories in their writer's notebooks as well as build/draft/edit informational papers as well as developing their sentencing and paragraph structure. Grammar skills continue to be a focus point too. Students are continuing to add to their "My Writing Playground" notebooks during reading rotations. I love their creativity!

WELCOME BACK!!!
1. WINTER OR SPRING - As usual, our Michigan weather keeps us guessing. Please be sure your child has the proper clothing to go outside for recess. The playground is wet and muddy on some days so perhaps an extra pair of jeans could be sent to school in case of “accidents.” Boots will help children’s feet stay dry and prolong the life of their shoes. Hats & mittens should be sent to school in case the temperature drops suddenly.
As we have mentioned before, outside recess is important to each and every child. They enjoy getting out of the school building and it refreshes them for the afternoon. If for some reason your child is not allowed outside for a day, please send a note to that effect. Thank you so much for your cooperation.
2. BOX TOPS FOR EDUCATION - We are still collecting box tops. Each box top you send in is worth 10 cents to our school. Twice a year, Box Tops will send our school a check worth 10 cents for each Box top redeemed. The money earned goes to student assemblies, Cardinal Kudo prizes, awards, field trips, etc.
3. BASEBALL/SOFTBALL SIGN-UPS will be held at the High School on Wednesday, January 27th from 6:00 – 8:00p.m. during the wrestling meet, Saturday, February 6th from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. and Saturday, February 27th from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. during the basketball tournaments. All kids ages 4-14 (Boys age as of April 30, 2016 and Girls age as of December 31, 2015) need to register by March 10th to avoid a late fee (no exceptions).

4. ATTENDANCE - We have many students who need to work on their punctuality in the morning. We certainly understand that students have doctor and dentist appointments or that busses sometimes run late, but many students are not getting to class on time. One problem is that students take too long at breakfast, and then straggle into class. This causes a disruption for the students and the teacher in the room. Please stress to your children the importance of getting to their class on time. Also, picking your child up early means your child is missing important instruction time. Teachers are teaching right up until dismissal time. Our goal is 100% attendance every day and no tardies. For the sake of your child’s education, we hope that you can make this your goal as well.
5. SPELLING BEE – Our fifth and sixth grade students will be participating in classroom spelling bees. In preparation for these bees, we will be having lunch time practices on Monday, January 11th, Wednesday, January 13th, 20th and Thursday, January 21st for those students that are interested. All lunch time practices will be held in Mrs. Barnes’ computer lab. In addition, we will have an after school practice on Monday, January 25th from 3:30 – 4:30 p.m. Transportation must be provided by parents for the after school sessions. If you have access to a computer at home you may also practice by going to www.myspellit.com and www.spellingbee.com. Word lists and definitions are located there! Continue the great work students!
6. PTO’S 7TH ANNUAL DADDY/DAUGHTER DANCE will be held on January 30th in the Michigan Center High School Gym from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. Parents, please pick up your Daddy/Daughter boxes on Monday, January 25th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Arnold School or Wednesday, January 27th from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Keicher School. Boxes will include tiara, corsage, and ticket. Tickets do not need to be brought to the dance. The girls’ names will be on a list at the door. If you were unable to pick up their boxes on either of those nights, they may be picked up the night
of the dance.
