Principal's Message
Good afternoon Canby High School Students and Families!
What a busy season for CHS! Our athletes, musicians, and thespians are showcasing their talents. Football plays in a league playoff game Friday for a spot in the state playoffs. Please note that the game time is 7:30. Volleyball has a first round playoff matchup Saturday at Silverton at 5:00. Cross country competed at district on Wednesday, and our boys finished 3rd and girls finished 5th. Both are eligible for an at-large berth to state, to be determined Sunday. And a big congratulations to senior Zac Woodruff! He was just accepted into the Oregon All State Jazz Band, composed of the top high school jazz musicians in Oregon. He will get to play in the All State Band in January.
Students are also celebrating the season with one another as was evident at our well attended and fun pumpkin carving event. Hosted by Leadership, the Eco Club, and the Alt Ed Department, it was a fun time, and produced great decorative pumpkins that are placed around the school. Thanks to Travis Fleck at K+ farms for the pumpkins and Heather Schole at Swan Island Dahlias for pumpkin transport. The Farm to Table class will make good use out of the leftover pumpkins.
Tuesday of next week is ACT testing. Freshman and Sophomores will be taking the Pre-ACT, and Juniors will be taking the ACT. Seniors are not expected at school and have time to explore post-CHS options. This test is important because it offers students access to college scholarships and course placement, and it can be used for career planning. It also gives CHS good data on how our students are performing so we improve student outcomes. Reminder to bring 2, #2 pencils and ACT approved calculators. Students don't need ipads or backpacks. Students will be released at 1:15. There is more information at the ACT info button below.
We are also looking forward to a myriad of events next week. Halloween is next week and we love the energy and school spirit our students bring to this day. Of course, school rules apply, and we ask that if students wear costumes, they are appropriate. No masks or look alike weapons. The fall play, The Servant of Two Masters, debuts on Thursday for a two week run. There is a fun synopsis below. Additionally, The MeCHA club and the Marketing department are partnering together to observe the Day of the Dead next week. Finally, I will be hosting “Coffee with Cari” at 9:00-10:00 am on Thursday, November 3 in Room 1. Families are invited to spend some time with me, share a cup of coffee, and learn more about CHS.
Have a wonderful week!
Best,
Cari Sloan

Athletics and Activities
Schedules:
We have all of our athletics schedule all in one place on our master athletic schedule. This includes game times, locations, and bus departure times. It is updated real-time by your athletic department. Go to this link to see the current schedule, which is subject to change with little notice. Note: our home football game is 30 minutes later this week at 7:30pm.
Fall Play--The Servant of Two Masters:
The play opens with a troupe of actors onstage bemoaning the bad economic times and the effect they’re having on the troupe's theatre. The company, preparing to perform Goldoni's The Servant of Two Masters, is reduced to borrowing and recycling props and costumes from other plays. Based on the classical Italian comedy style of commedia dell'arte, the play’s plot revolves around the absurdly complicated circumstances keeping two pairs of lovers apart, and the role of the servant Truffaldino in bringing everything to a happy conclusion as he attempts to sate his hunger for both food and meaning in life. Will Truffaldino and the rest of the theatre troupe be able to pull off the under-rehearsed show AND save the theatre? Find out at CHS's The Servant of Two Masters!

Attendance at CHS
To ensure the accuracy and efficiency of our attendance process, please remember the following guidelines:
If your student needs to leave class for an appointment or because they are sick, inform the attendance office 30 MINUTES PRIOR to leave time. This will help us ensure that your student receives a note to leave class in a timely manner. Students will not be excused without a note.
Pre-Excused Absence: For any anticipated absence that will be more than three days, students are expected to pick up a Pre-Excused Absence Form from Jessie Munoz at the Attendance Office.
To report an absence, call Jessie Munoz at our attendance line at 503-263-7210 or email chs-attendance@canby.k12.or.us.
Students have 48 hours to have unexcused absences excused. Students may lose the opportunity to make up work for credit due to unexcused absences. Please report an absence as soon as possible.
Remember that attendance matters and students who attend class regularly are more likely to stay on track, graduate on time, learn deeply, and get the most from their high school experience.
