Robotics Class
The students in Mr. Rose’s robotics class are off to a good start in the newly designed class. Using Lego Mindstorms robot kits, the students were quick to assemble their robots and learn how to get them up and running. Using the Lego NXT programming software, students are able to organize various commands that they wish to have their robot execute. In the early phase of this class, Mr. Rose's students are learning the individual programming blocks before moving on to any big challenges.
In similar news, CMS will offer a robotics club as part of the CMS Trucker University. This offering will give these students and others an opportunity to spend more time tinkering in the field of robotics.
Screens! You can see Alaina Bevernitz juggling three different computer screens. In a robotics class you can never have too many laptops! The large laptop computer is where she is running the programming software. Another is one student’s Chromebook, which is open to the assignment found on Google Classroom. The third screen is yet another Chromebook, where she is typing in answers on a shared Google doc with her group. The students move through the assignments together as a team. | Robot Testing You can see students (l to r) Madisen Ortner, Kilian Schoenheide, and Caiden Krueger working on the robot testing area. The testing area is a walled 4x8 foot platform, graciously built by Phil Johnson of the district’s maintenance staff. On the test area, these students are working with meter sticks and 45-45-90 triangles as they run trial programs. In the early going here, students are learning how to program their robots to travel measured distances and turn 90 degrees. |
