Skaggs Elementary Newsletter
March 16, 2023
Dear Parents,
Welcome back! Spring is budding, and it's wonderful to see colors sprouting here and there. I hope you can take a moment to enjoy the season. We got great news that made this break even more exciting: 5th grader Faizan Z earned the co-champion title at the Dallas Regional Spelling Bee! He is advancing to the televised National Scripps Spelling Bee in May. We are very proud and excited for his continued accomplishments. Every Star at our school brings their unique qualities for us to appreciate and celebrate.
We are making a change for the back (West/Rice-side) carpool for dismissal. We appreciate your flexibility.
BACK Carpool Dismissal Change - effective Monday, 3/20
- Grade 2 (and their older siblings) will be dismissed from the FRONT carpool.
- Grades 3 & 4 will continue to be dismissed from the BACK. However, their dismissal spot will change to where they are dropped off in the morning. Grade level doors will no longer be opened.
History Fair
4th & 5th grade History Fair will be held on March 27th. Projects are due March 24th. This year’s theme is: Frontiers in History: People, Places, Ideas. Students who are interested in participating can get handbooks from their homeroom teacher.
PTA General Meeting is on Monday, March 27th at 4:00 PM. Everyone (parents and teachers) is invited! The success of your child's elementary school years has a lot to do with PTA. Your participation will make all the difference. As of now, we are needing a lot of volunteers to step up for next year's PTA board (see graphic below).
OPEN HOUSE - Rescheduled for March 30th, 6:00-7:00pm.
We look forward to seeing you and the children! The students will be extra proud to present their work. It is okay for you to exaggerate your excitement to your children and their teachers because they have been working hard! We appreciate you giving your undivided attention to your students and reserving in-depth topics or questions for the teachers for conferences.
Sincerely,
Karen Lee

Youth Art Month
We love celebrating art at Skaggs and it makes us so happy that March is Youth Art Month (YAM)! YAM is a national and local celebration of art education and its impact on students. A limited number of students have art chosen for PISD's annual YAM gallery show. We are happy to share the two students who will be representing Skaggs this year: 5th grader Anna L. and 2nd grader Chris F. Their work will be on display at the brand new Robinson Fine Arts Center from now until March 28th. Please stop by any time between 8 AM – 5 PM to see all the amazing creations of PISD students!
