Beautiful Weather and Lots to Do!

May is here in full bloom - literally! It has been so lovely outside and we are loving taking our brain breaks to the playground and soaking up some vitamin D! Here is what we are up to this month.

In French Language Arts, we are wrapping up writing instructions and following directions. It is lots of fun with a couple of neat recipes to come! Students will be showcasing their writing skills so that others can read and follow instructions to complete a task, bake a treat, or create a craft. Some of these projects will be on Freshgrade for you to see as well as in the portfolio. We will also be posting our stories from last month on Freshgrade for you to take a look too! The students were so proud of their creativity and their use of dialogue in their writing.

In English, we are working on script writing! Students will create a script, make puppets and present their puppet shows to peers along with a few special shows to different classes throughout the school! I can't wait to see the creativity in action!

In math, we are continuing to work on adding and subtracting to 1000, multiplying and dividing up to 25 as well as 3D shapes. It's crunch time and we are hard at work with review from previous units as well as building deeper understanding. Students will be creating a "Go Fish" game to practice their division and multiplication skills while having some fun with friends. Feel free to request an extra game as I'd be happy to send one home for you to play together.

In Social Studies, we are creating our very own cities! The students have named their cities, created a flag and have determined which goods and services will be available to their citizens. Next, we will map our cities and create a diorama which will include the use of a few math skills too!

In Science, we continue to learn about rocks, their formation, their attributes and compositions. We will focus more on the minerals that compose rocks and how they break down.
