Industrial Revolution
The Industrial Revolution is a period of time using machines to make worldwide production quicker. It started in the United Kingdom in 1750.
Working Conditions In The Factory
Working conditions in the factories during the Industrial Revolution were messy, unclean, and deadly. People in the factory died from diseases such as Black Lung.
Textile Factories
This is a young child working in a textile factory. Children back in the day got paid very low, as low as half a penny.
The Flying Shuttle
The Flying Shuttle was invented by John Kay in 1733. It made weavers weave wider cloths.
The Cotton Gin
The Cotton Gin was invented by Eli Whitney in 1793. This machine removed seeds from cotton when you turned the crank.
Child Labor
Life In The Factory
Life in the factory was dirty and unclean. Children worked all day with little pay and short lunch breaks. If the Overseer thought the children weren't working hard enough, they were whipped. Some of the leaders were children. Like other people, children died of Black Lung and other deadly diseases.
