From the principal's desk
It's hard to believe March is already here and we're nearly two-thirds of the way through another Hillcrest school year! We are celebrating two of my favorite things this month: the joy of reading and our amazing classified staff members.
As a former reading teacher, I am always excited for opportunities to celebrate reading! This week was Read Across America Week and next week is our Spring Scholastic Book Fair. This is a great time to purchase books for kids to read over spring break and maybe even squirrel a few away for summer vacation. Don't forget to take a look at our book-themed dress-up days set for all next week. I can't wait to see the cuteness and creativity of our student and staff outfits!
I would also like to recognize the incredibly dedicated Hillcrest classified staff and the work they do to support and care for our students each and every day. I appreciate the high level of support and immeasurable level of compassion and empathy our classified staff shares with our students. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to our paraeducators, our office and library staff, our custodial staff, our food service staff, our nursing support staff, and our transportation staff. These are people who love working with children and their work is making a difference in children's time at school. I encourage you to reach out and thank a classified staff member for their service to our students.
As always, I continue to thank Hillcrest families for partnering with us to support our students, staff, school, and community.
Respectfully,
Paula Seaman

Ms. Trueman Shares Two Amazing Programs for Kids and Families!
I am equally excited to share an amazing program for our future Herons! The Whidbey Island Community Foundation has partnered with Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, a
book gifting program that mails free, high-quality books to children from birth to age five, no matter their family's income. Every child under the age of 5 receives a free book each month and the books are based on the child's birth year so they continue to receive age-appropriate books during these critical developmental years. You can see a list of all the books your child will get in the mail over the years here and register for the Imagination Library here.
Our March Spotlight Bookshelves feature a variety of colorful and inspiring stories in honor of Women's History Month. I look forward to sharing some of these titles with your child's class this month!
Happy Reading!
Ms. Trueman
