Main Food Sources Of Vanadium

Cautions

  • Vanadium supplements - the toxicity and safety of these supplements have not been thoroughly studied and some supplements have very high doses and should NOT be taken
  • People taking Heparin - tests have shown that vanadium can stop the drug heparin from working properly and caused blood clotting. People taking the drug Heparin should NOT take vanadium supplements

Why Do You Need Vanadium?

Vanadium is a trace mineral found in many foods. Scientists think your body may need vanadium in very small amounts for normal bone growth.

Too Much Vanadium

Some toxicity can occur in rats. Vanadium is more commonly an industrial and environmental pollutant, though this has not been shown to be a concern.

Too Little Vanadium

Deficiency problems of vanadium have not been clearly shown in humans, though there is a suspicion that low vanadium can increase susceptibility to heart disease and cancer or lead to higher cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Vanadium Over-the-Counter

In my local pharmacy, CVS Pharmacy, the only over-the-counter supplement containing vanadium is a Chromium Vanadium Liquid. There are supplements that are purely vanadium though. The multivitamin liquid costs $16.99 for 4 oz. with a ppm of 0.18. One teaspoon of this supplement should be taken daily
