Blueprint For Maryland's Future
The Maryland General Assembly passed the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future (Blueprint) legislation in 2021. The legislation is designed to transform public education in the state into a world-class education system by increasing educational funding, enriching student experiences and accelerating student outcomes, as well as improving the quality of education for all children in Maryland. One component of this legislation relates to providing individualized career advising services to middle and high school students. With this in mind, I am excited to share that Montgomery County Public Schools will collaborate with WorkSource Montgomery (WSM) and Montgomery College (MC) to develop and implement an exciting new Montgomery County Career Advising Program (MoCoCAP) beginning this school year.
MoCoCAP will assist us in transforming the way we support career success for our students. The vision for MoCoCAP is to provide career advising services that will enable students to vividly describe their own strengths, interests, and workplace values; identify how they are expanding their skills and knowledge; describe the various opportunities ahead of them; and describe their goals for their future as they develop lifelong career management skills. During the 2023-2024 school year, MoCoCAP will support students in Grades 6 and 9, and expand the rollout of MoCoCAP to all secondary students by the 2025-2026 school year.
Full implementation of this innovative and transformative work will take time to plan, deploy, study, and perfect. Input and feedback on this work will be critical in the coming months and years. To learn more about MoCoCAP and our partners in this work, visit the MoCoCAP website.

After School Activities Have Started
- Activity descriptions, meeting times, and club sponsor

Extracurricular activities are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. All children staying after school must report to the Cafeteria immediately after class dismissal at 3 PM. Ms. Rao and Ms. Brewster will supervise students in the cafeteria, and the cafeteria will provide an after-school snack. Students will remain in the cafeteria until their club or intramural sponsors pick up their students at 3:15 PM. Students will be dismissed from their extracurricular activities at 4:25 PM. If you are picking up your student, please be ready at LPMS no later than 4:25 PM; otherwise, your student can take the activity bus home. Remind Transition
We are excited to share that LPMS and MCPS is transitioning to the use of Remind to engage with its school communities! If you're not already familiar with Remind, it's a communication tool that makes it easy to stay involved with your child's learning. Remind is free to use, and you'll be able to get and send messages on any device - even a simple text message from your mobile phone!
MCPS has created accounts for all teachers, staff, parents/guardians, and students ages 13 and above. On October 1st, LPMS transitioned fully to Remind. This is the first week you'll receive email or text messages to your mobile phone from Remind. If you do not receive texts, phone calls, or emails from Remind, please complete your annual verification or update your settings in Synergy ParentVue. Please note that downloading the Remind App is not necessary to receive messages, but it is an option some users prefer.
You will receive messages in your preferred language as indicated in Synergy ParentVue. You can also confidentially select a preferred language in the Remind App that will not be uploaded to your account and will not be reflected in your child's record. When we utilize two-way communication through Remind, you can also send messages back in your preferred language, and they’ll automatically be translated into the staff member’s preferred language.

Register and Verify Your ParentVue Information
The Annual Verification process allows families to update contact information, collect important information about you and your student, including any medical, immunization, language preferences, and emergency information that school staff need to know. MCPS uses ParentVUE to collect this information electronically. Online registration is available now until October 20th.

Did your child miss picture day? Individual student picture make-up and retake day is November 29th.
COVID-19 Outbreak Measures and Vaccine News
Temporary outbreak precautions for individual classrooms where COVID-19 is spreading rapidly helps prevent spread to vulnerable individuals and to the rest of school. Check out the FAQ page for more information about how outbreaks are managed. The newly approved COVID-19 updated vaccine will be available in our area in the next few weeks. For information about COVID-19, influenza and RSV vaccine availability, refer to Vaccines.Gov.
PATHWAY TO COLLEGE, CAREER, AND COMMUNITY READINESS
MCPS created a new guide to help families, students and teachers work together to ensure student success.
The Pathway to College, Career and Community Readiness helps identify students’ strengths and areas of improvement to ensure each student receives the support they need.
Here’s how it works:
- The milestones described below will be used to address any learning gaps before students transition to a new grade level, college or the workforce.
- Parents will receive information about whether their child is meeting or not meeting these specific benchmarks.
- School staff, students and families will meet together to decide the best way to help the student succeed.
- In addition to academic benchmarks, schools will also provide opportunities for students to cultivate core competencies and skills to prepare them for life after high school. You can see the core competencies here.

MCPS to Host Girls’ Summit
The district is inviting all MCPS families to the Girls’ Summit on Saturday, Oct. 21 at Clarksburg High School. This event will provide informative workshops geared towards middle and high school girls on a variety of current topics. Join us for a chance to network, participate in fun activities, learn valuable skills and enjoy a fashion show presented by White House Black Market celebrating diverse body types!
Sessions will be provided in English and Spanish, and will be organized by grade level. Student Service Learning (SSL) hours will be available for students. Topics and activities will include:
Healthy relationships/dating violence
Social media use and mental health, including cyberbullying
Self-esteem
Identifying symptoms of depression and anxiety
Healthy eating and body image
Music therapy, Zumba and Kaiser Permanente spin bikes for art therapy
Narcan kits will be distributed and training will also be available.

MCPS is seeking the community’s feedback as it works to finalize the 2024–2025 school calendar. Please complete this survey to share your input.
Your feedback represents an important component of the development process. MCPS will consider educational interests, operational needs, mandated school closures by state law, compliance with minimum instructional days and credit hour requirements, inclement weather and other emergencies, staff professional days and early release days, alignment with assessment schedules and more.
