Principal's Message

Dear Sequoia Families,

Can you believe we have one day of school left? The year has gone by so fast! I have to say that my first year as principal at Sequoia is one I'll never forget. I knew when I was hired that I was lucky to be here, but this year has proved that to be true. When I think about Back to School Night in August and the idea of Growing All Kids and Growing Community, I think we have made big strides in both these areas. All our staff has worked so hard to provide the best educational experience and we've seen great growth in our students academically and socially. Not only have students learned and mastered grade level standards, they have also made life long friends. I have also been continually amazed at the way our community has come together and supported each other with school events, fundraisers, and fun. Even more though, I am in awe at the way our school came together through tremendous difficulty in October. No one can prepare for something like what happened to our city and yet...we brainstormed how we could support our families, checked in and checked up on kids and parents, provided for each other, laughed and cried together, and never stopped remembering that we are better and stronger together. Thank you all for your support, care and love for Sequoia.

I am excited for another year and I hope you are too. Mark your calendars, August 13th is the the first day of school for the 2018-19 school year.

I hope you have a wonderful, rest-filled summer!

Mrs. Clark

Last Day is 1:25pm Dismissal!

Field Day Coordinator Needed

Our Field Day Coordinator for the last several years, Jen Smits, will be leaving Sequoia as her child is a 6th grader this year. Jen has created a seamless day for our students with plans and schedules all ready to go. Now we need someone willing to take over this event next year. If you are interested please be in touch with Amy Niesen at amyoniesen@aol.com.

Garden Committee Members Needed

If you are interested in being part of a small group of parents to coordinate a garden schedule and lessons, we have a spot for you! Please be in touch with me at bclark@rvusd.org

Treasurer Intern Needed

Katrina Gillaspie is our current SPC treasurer and will continue next year but would like to train a new person to take over when she leaves that position. This is an easy position to learn and Katrina can teach you all you need to know! Please let me know if you are interested in learning more about being our SPC treasurer in the future (bclark@rvusd.org).

2018 Walk-A-Thon Auction Team Needed!

The Sequoia Parents' Club needs your help! Planning has already begun for next year's Walk-a-Thon (October 12) and we need to build an auction team! Positions include general auction coordinator, donor request team members, grand lottery coordinator and kids' raffle coordinator.

The auction has become a integral part of our Walk-a-Thon's success but we need volunteers to keep it going! Please contact Amy Niesen (amyoniesen@aol.com) for more information or if you have specific questions.

Thank you for your consideration.
