Setting the Tone
Parents, Community Members, and Friends of Marsh;
It's hard to believe we have finished the second six weeks! Thank you for your support as we continue to drive high expectations and excellence throughout our school. Last month we hosted several visits from different community organizations and businesses. We continue to encourage and welcome visits from all of our community. Please contact Rose Davidson, our community liaison, if you would like to visit Marsh.
The first six weeks of common assessments brought great pride to our school and Science Department as our scholars outperformed most schools including the magnet schools! Our UIL award-winning Fine Arts and athletic programs continue to knock it out of the ballpark! We are proud of our faculty, staff, and scholars. Thank you for the joy, passion, and purpose you bring to school every day! We are Marsh!
A Rewarding Weekend
On Saturday 12 of our string musicians woke up early and met at school to get on a bus and go to All-Region Orchestra auditions .
To put these great results in context, two years ago we didn't have anyone representing Marsh in All-Region and last year we only had Karen Hernandez. This year we have four!!! Also, if you are curious, we were competing with Highland Park, Greenhill, Grand Prairie Fine Arts, Greiner Arts Academy. The cellists competed with over 40 other cellists for 16 spots and the violinists competed with over 200 peers for 40 spots. Congratulations Marsh Musicians!
-Jacqueline Torres: Made 2nd cello chair in Philharmonic Orchestra (top middle school orchestra)!!!!
-Veronica Martinez: Made 9th cello chair in Concert Orchestra.
-Elizabeth Laureano: Made 16th chair in 1st violins, concert orchestra.
-Delailah Nguyen: Made 13th chair in 2nd violins, concert orchestra.
And Chess Begins
On Saturday, November 4th, our Marsh Grandmaster Chess Club met to battle out a grueling, 5 round, 7 hour tournament at Conrad High School.
They did an awesome job, missing team trophies by one point, but bringing home four medals!
Congratulate Jonas Meza, Moises Juarez, George Vasquez, and Catherine Medlock on their excellent performance this weekend!
We look forward to a semester of intense games to prepare us for our district championship in May.

LCC in Action
2017 Atwell Color Guard competition was a success! We earned four 1st place trophies but most importantly, we pushed through the nervousness and self-doubt that accompany every team's first competition.

Matador Moments
Earlier this month we had a scholar that found an envelope full of money in the girl's bathroom, with no hesitation the student turned in the envelope to the main office. The owner of the money was forever grateful the money was found. Her honesty speaks volumes of the character traits and values we are trying to instill in our Marsh scholars. We are very proud of our Matadors!
2nd Six Weeks Report Cards
Report Cards will be given out by the 8th period teachers on Monday, November 13th.
Parents remember you don't need to wait for report cards to be issued to know how your scholar is doing. Your Parent Portal account will let you know everything at anytime. If you don't have a Parent Portal account, please see our Community Liaison, Ms. Davidson, to get one set up!

DALLAS ISD INVITES COMMUNITY TO EDUCATION SUMMITS
Parents, students, district staff, business leaders and community members will have an opportunity to share their innovative vision of the future. Dates, times and locations are listed below.
6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 7
W.T. White High School
6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 7
South Oak Cliff High School
6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 9
Emmett J. Conrad High School
6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 9
W.W. Samuell High School and Early College
(*Free childcare and refreshments will be provided at each location.)
During the summits, citizens will have the opportunity to learn more about the learning, technology and facilities planning process and hear from a student panel, as well as talk about their highest hopes and aspirations for their children. In an effort to develop an actionable and measurable vision, Dallas ISD encourages all community members to join this effort.
Additionally, community members can provide feedback through an online survey now through Friday, Nov. 10 here. The survey will also be posted on the district and campus websites. The district is also hosting a series of focus groups representing various stakeholder groups in October and early November. Information, feedback and input gathered at the summits, focus groups and from the survey will be used by a design team comprised of citizens and district staff who will create a community-focused strategic direction for technology and facilities. This strategic direction will include a set of community beliefs, call to action, goals, action steps and a learner profile. Additionally, it will allow Dallas ISD to measure student learning and serve as a guide for the district as it makes future decisions regarding instruction, technology, budgeting, staffing and facility planning.
As the district embarks on this process, all summits, documents and resources will be posted online at www.dallasisd.org/envisiondallasisd for community members to stay informed. The district will provide updates throughout this process.
