Do You Know Where Your Children Are?
A public service announcement used to run at the top of the evening news: "It's 10 p.m. Do you know where your children are?" Well, it's 2016, and with smartphone technology it's possible to track your child's physical AND digital location?
While some may think it's a violation of your child's rights to monitor their digital footprint, I think most will believe otherwise. As parents, we have the responsibility to protect our children from the dangers of a digital world. With a national increase in digital bullying and sexting, here are a few options that you as a parent have access to. There are a number parental tracking apps and services that can be used to monitor teen activity on smartphones: TeenSafe, MamaBear, Life360, Canary and My Mobile Watchdog, to name a few, can be used to monitor texts, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and other web-based avenues of digital communication.
Some of the options may have a free "trial" period. Check them out and see what they have to offer. I believe we owe it to our children to ensure their safety in today's digital world.
