SCHOOL COUNSELOR'S CORNER
6th Grade NOVEMBER/DECEMBER 2018
Student Success Plans
Now that your child has settled in and learned the layout of the land here at NFMS it is time to start focusing on how we are going to help them move forward as middle school students. We all always do better at moving ahead when we set goals. On November 1st and 2nd the long term substitute school counselor, Mrs. Schramm and I went into the classrooms to guide your 6th graders in the writing of their first middle school smart goals. Thank you, Mrs. Schramm!

What is a SMART Goal?
A S.M.A.R.T. goal is a specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely goal.
FOR EXAMPLE:
1. I want to earn at least a B in math class by the end of the year.
2 I want to get better at reading by 7th grade.
3. I want to stick my round off double back handspring back tuck in gymnastics by the end of winter.
This is question 2 on the SSP.
One must have an Action Plan!
FOR EXAMPLE:
1. In math I will work hard at getting all of my homework in and reviewing my math facts every night. I will go to my math teacher during PLC and when she offers retakes or test corrections I will make sure that I do those too.
2. In reading I will work harder to find books that I like to read and try harder to read more at home. Adults are always telling me that the more you read the better you get at it. I have to try to read more.
3. I have to attend all of my gym practices and work on whatever my coaches tell me to, even when I don't want to. Anytime I can get to extra practices I really have to go.
This is question #3 on the SSP
What do you want to be when you grow up?
