Reading Fun!

Making reading fun!
I am so excited for the new school year! This year I hope to work as a team with you. Team work makes the dream work! I believe that students succeed most when all hands are on deck.
With that being said I would like to make reading as fun as possible. At times reading for students can get very stressful and overwhelming. When reading becomes stressful for students it can make it something they don't like, or want to do.
I am going to use this website to include different ways you can incorporate reading and make it fun at home. I will have different websites, and activities to use to work on site words and even more things as the year progresses!
Some fun ideas!
Every Monday - Thursday students will have homework. I have sent home a book and a homework sheet with every student. On Monday and Wednesday they will have a book to read (the same book). Have the students start off with a "sneak peak"! It is something we do in the classroom, just to check out the book before we start reading. Have students look at the pictures and tell you what they think its going to be about. Its a lot of fun to check and see if what we thought was right after we read it! :)
Awesome ways to read: In the dark with a flashlight, outside, under a table, etc. Let students pick their favorite spot to read, it will help make reading more exciting.
Every Tuesday and Thursday they will have a list of 5 sight words to read, and then write. The sight words will change as they master them.
In class we love making our sight words with play dough, chalk, markers etc. Letter magnets, shaving cream, and highlighters are also fun ways to work on words!!
