Checking On Injured (appears to be unconscious)
- Check for responsiveness
- Call 9-1-1
- Open their airway
- Check for breathing
- Check for severe bleeding
Conscious Choking (cannot cough, speak, breathe)
- Give 5 back blows
- 5 abdominal thrusts
- Continue care until object ejected
Unconscious Choking (chest not rising with breaths)
- Give Rescue breaths
- Give 30 chest compressions
- Look for and remove object if seen
- Give 2 rescue breaths
CPR (no breathing)
- 30 chest compressions
- 2 rescue breaths
- Do not stop until they are responsive
- Use AED if available
AED
- Turn on AED
- Wipe bear chest dry
- Attach pads
- Plug in connector and stand clear
- Analyze heart rhythm button
- Deliver shock
- Perform CPR
External Bleeding
- Cover wound
- Apply pressure until bleeding stops
- Cover dressing with bandage
- Apply more pressure, call 9-1-1
Burns
- Remove source of burn
- Cool the burn
- Cover with sterile dressing
- Call 9-1-1
- Care for Shock
Poisoning
- Call 9-1-1 or poison hotline
- Provide care based on conditions
Head/Spinal Injuries
- Call 9-1-1
- Minimize movement and stabilize head
Stroke
- Check for condition: FAST
- Face: ask to smile, does face droop?
- Arm: raise both arms, does one drift down?
- Speech: say simple sentence, is speech slurred?
- Time: Call 9-1-1 if signs seen, determine time when symptoms originated
