Checking On Injured (appears to be unconscious)

  1. Check for responsiveness
  2. Call 9-1-1
  3. Open their airway
  4. Check for breathing
  5. Check for severe bleeding

Conscious Choking (cannot cough, speak, breathe)

  1. Give 5 back blows
  2. 5 abdominal thrusts
  3. Continue care until object ejected

Unconscious Choking (chest not rising with breaths)

  1. Give Rescue breaths
  2. Give 30 chest compressions
  3. Look for and remove object if seen
  4. Give 2 rescue breaths

CPR (no breathing)

  1. 30 chest compressions
  2. 2 rescue breaths
  3. Do not stop until they are responsive
  4. Use AED if available

AED

  1. Turn on AED
  2. Wipe bear chest dry
  3. Attach pads
  4. Plug in connector and stand clear
  5. Analyze heart rhythm button
  6. Deliver shock
  7. Perform CPR

External Bleeding

  1. Cover wound
  2. Apply pressure until bleeding stops
  3. Cover dressing with bandage
  4. Apply more pressure, call 9-1-1

Burns

  1. Remove source of burn
  2. Cool the burn
  3. Cover with sterile dressing
  4. Call 9-1-1
  5. Care for Shock

Poisoning

  1. Call 9-1-1 or poison hotline
  2. Provide care based on conditions

Head/Spinal Injuries

  1. Call 9-1-1
  2. Minimize movement and stabilize head

Stroke

  1. Check for condition: FAST
  2. Face: ask to smile, does face droop?
  3. Arm: raise both arms, does one drift down?
  4. Speech: say simple sentence, is speech slurred?
  5. Time: Call 9-1-1 if signs seen, determine time when symptoms originated
  6. Provide Care
