We will be in our fourth year of the program having a class in 1st grade, 2nd grade, 3rd grade and an incoming Kindergarten class for the Fall of 2023 . A Dual Language Immersion Program has the goal of promoting bilingualism, bi-literacy, and socio-cultural competence.
Applications are now open for a new DLI Kindergarten class, with a balance of Native English and Spanish speakers. There may be few slots open in our first grade class as well. If you applied last year, you will remain on the waiting list and do not need to re-apply.

School News
Last weekend Hawks View had a chess team at the district tournament. The players did fantastic and we would like to congratulate the entire team on a job well done! We would also like to congratulate Tanner Cortelyou and Calvin Weckerly who qualified to move on to the state tournament! Way to go everyone!
Our winning OBOB team “Fiction Addiction” will be competing Saturday, March 11th at the OBOB Regionals. Have a great time and good luck to them!
This week, March 6-10, was National School breakfast Week. Our Nutrition Services Department hosted a raffle contest for a Pac-Man Pocket Player (furnished by our partners at Dominos Pizza). Each time a student received a school breakfast this week, they received a raffle ticket. And the winning raffle ticket winner is Matthew in Mrs. Cortelyou's class. Congratulations Matthew!
PAC News
PAC Elections - We need YOU! Please consider serving the Hawks View Elementary students and staff by running for a PAC board position or volunteering for a committee. Most positions can be shared and the time commitments vary. Please visit our website or email president@hawksviewpac.org for more information. The nomination form can be found here! It's fun AND a great way to stay informed and create relationships with staff and parents in the community.
Hawks View Apparel - Need some spirit gear? Visit our online store to order!
Chess Club - Thanks to all the students who have participated in Chess Club this year! And a BIG thank you to the volunteers who have come to help supervise and educate the students about chess; you are appreciated! Next week 3/16 is the LAST DAY for Chess Club this year.
Shirts Needed for Art Lit - We are onto the last of three lessons for Art Lit this school year. It will be a fun lesson, but a bit messier than the last two. That is why we are asking for donations of shirts that are no longer needed by you to become smocks for our students. Need: Youth M to Adult M shirts, short or long sleeve. Please drop them off in the office by next Friday 3/17. Email programs@hawksviewpac.org with questions.
State Testing
Oregon's Statewide Assessments in science, mathematics, and English language arts will begin in April for students in grades 3-8. Scheduled testing will take place during the school day. For additional information on the State Assessments from the Oregon Department of Education, please review the following link.
While no single test can give a complete picture of your child’s progress, statewide tests provide information to students and families, as well as to educators and administrators about what educational approaches are working and where additional resources are needed. Your child’s participation is important to ensure schools and districts receive the targeted resources they need to help all students succeed. Districts are rated on their participation levels as well as student performance on this exam.
Oregon law (ORS 329.479) permits parents and adult students to annually opt-out of Oregon’s statewide summative tests in English Language Arts and Math by submitting a form to the school the student attends. If you decide to opt your child out of the math and/or ELA state assessments, please submit the following form to your child’s teacher or the front office by April 7, 2023 to best support our school with planning.
