Introduction to the Tasmanian devil
Did you know that tasmanian devils use their whiskers to space out among each other? Tasmanian devils are amazing animals from their history to their awesome characteristics and their interesting diet.
History of the devil
They roam the night in the forests and scrublands of Tasmania. Tasmanian devils only live on Tasmania, but about 600 years ago they lived on the mainland of Australia but were killed off by wild dogs called dingos. The tasmanian devil earned it’s name in 1806 when settlers came to tasmania to start a community. But in the night they were woken by horrible screeches. They reported this, and the tasmanian devil got it’s name. Also in 1806, George Harris described the tasmanian devil as a monster that would kill farmer’s livestock when in reality a tasmanian devil would only attack another animal if in defense or if the animal was sick or dying. So farmers started to kill them. Thirty -five cents for females and twenty-five cents for males. Eventually in 1946 they found out that tasmanian devils would not harm their livestock, but it was too late, tasmanian devils were already endangered species.
