Lake Elementary School News
Weekly Update for June 6
Well, it's finally here, the last week of the 21-22 school year! I am so grateful to have had the opportunity to be the principal of Lake Elementary this year. It has been a school year filled with ups and downs, but it's been so rewarding for me to see the smiles on our students' faces when they learn something new, perform, or experience a fun activity. I am incredibly thankful for the support I've had from the Lake staff, students, parents, and community. Although I will not be your principal next year, I will value this experience and opportunity forever. Personally, I'm looking forward to spending more time with my own babies and finding more of a work-life balace.
If you joined us on Friday, you know that our PTA's end of year field party was a hit! It was so much fun seeing the kids running around and dancing, the families socializing, and all the yummy food vendors. Our students who performed at Shrek did wonderful as well! I was so proud to see all the efforts of their hard work come to life.
More fun is to come this week--5th Grade promotion will be at 1:30pm on June 7th. Please bring your own chairs to sit on during the event, as it takes place on the field. Kinder promotion will be held in Rose Hall on June 8th and is in the morning, talk to your child's teacher for the specific time, as it varies by class. The last day of school for everyone is Wednesday, June 8th, and it is early dismissal!
Have a wonderful summer, and thank you for a great school year!

Covid-19 Weekly Reporting at Lake Elementary School
In order to keep our families informed on Covid-19 cases in our school, we will be utilizing the following procedures:
All families will be notified weekly of our Covid-19 cases in this section of the Lake School News.
If your student is identified as a "close contact" of a Covid-19 positive person on campus, you will be notified immediately by Remind message and will be provided directions for any necessary testing or quarantine.
Lake Week of May 30-June 3: 5 Covid-19 positive cases (in-school)
If you have questions about school attendance and COVID-19, please check this document with updated information.
If your child is out sick, please remember that we are still required by SD Health & Human Services to have a negative covid test on file for them to return. If you use a home test, please note the date and your childs name in Sharpie/Pen ON the actual test and email or show the office a photo upon your child's return. We will need 2 home (or antigen) tests, taken 12 hours apart in order for a student to return. We know this can be a hassle, but it's important that we follow all health guidelines in order to remain open and keep our student safe.
If you need a home test, please ask in the office as we have a limited number available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Notes from the Office
If you wish to volunteer for an event/field trip with your child's class, you must complete a volunteer application 48 hours prior to the event.
Your application must include the application filled out, both front and back sides, a copy of your driver's license, and a TB test, done in the last 4 years. If you are vaccinated you may include a copy of your vaccination card or show Claudia your vaccination dates. If you are not vaccinated you will need to do a home test, which we have available in the office while supplies last, 48 hours prior to the event.

In Case You Missed It...
Dolphtones at Disneyland!
Our very own STAR at Lake!
Her nomination included the following words from her colleagues:
"In her years at Lake Elementary, she has continually been an incredibly kind, generous, and positive person. She handles difficult situations with grace, understanding, and patience. She always puts her students first and goes above and beyond to create the best learning environment for them."
"She is the most positive person in VUSD and the students feel that from her daily. They gravitate to her brightness and energy. She makes time for every single parent who needs her attention, every scrape and bumped knee, and every colleague who is looking for a classroom idea, support, or an ear to listen. I do not know how she only has 24 hours in her day, because she uses them all to shower Lake with her love and attention."
"Patrice Michel is a true gem. She has been teaching in VUSD for close to 30 years and still shows up everyday with the excitement, energy and passion of a brand new teacher (but with all of the knowledge and experience of her many years!)."
- Monday is a minimum day! Dismissal is at 12:36pm. There is no second-chance breakfast on minimum days, so please send your child with a snack, or have them get breakfast before school starts from 7:25-7:40.
- No Dogs on campus. As much as we love our furry friends, we can not have them on campus. This is VUSD policy, so if you need to bring your dog, you'll have to pick your child up at Lake Park. Thank you!
- Early pickup: If you need to pick your child up early for an appointment, please do so prior to 1:30pm. After that you'll need to wait until regular dismissal time. If you have questions, please call the office.
- Do not drop your child off prior to 7:25am. We have no supervision available before this time. Students need to stay in the car until 7:25 if you are in the line.
- Please have your child bring a water bottle and mask, daily. Donations are needed for small water cups for those students who forgot their water bottle. Small, disposable children's mask donations are also greatly appreciated! You can send these to the office.
Important Health & Safety Information
Call into the office each time your child is absent. Do not send your child to school if they are sick. In case you missed it, please see the covid-19 notification. Let's all work together to keep eachother safe during this uncertain time. I encourage all parents and students to wear a mask during drop-off and pick-up.
If you ever have questions about how the district is handling health & safety, please check the health & safety page on the VUSD website.
Please read the presentation notes below each slide for more details!
