Caldecott WEB Project

The Book Jacket Projects were absolutely beautiful and the students have enjoyed sharing them with the class. Great Job!

Literacy

Over the next two weeks, we will take a benchmark test to assess all we have learned in Unit 1 of Journeys. We will do projects and reread stories from this unit on communities. Students will take their Week 5 Spelling test on Tuesday, November 17th. We will not get new words until after Thanksgiving because we are not beginning a new Journeys lesson until the week of November 30th. I will meet with readers in conferences and small groups to assess reading and set goals.

We will practice and read a whole-class Reader's Theatre about a family during Thanksgiving called, Thanksgiving With the Tappleton's. Each student will get a part and practice reading individually, then we will read the whole play together.

Writing Focus:

We will write about being thankful in our lives through a special project as we make gratitude pumpkins.

Nonfiction Text Features

This week, 2T will begin our first non-fiction writing unit. The students will be introduced to the visual and text features of nonfiction and begin to understand that they signal importance. Using model texts, the students will recognize that the visual and text features have a purpose. Students will hunt for text and visual features and create personal non-fiction features reference books.

Social Studies:

Students will study the characteristics of good citizenship such as a belief in justice, truth, equality, and responsibility for the common good. We will identify ordinary people who exemplify good citizenship and discuss the pillars of character that we have in Haddon Township. Students will then learn the important skill of how to tell a fact from an opinion. We will wrap up Unit 2 “Our Community” with a review and take the Unit test. (Friday November 20th)
