Havelock North Primary School 14th September 2021
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
It was so good to be back for two days last week and we look forward to our first full week this week.
A special welcome to our new students Isabella Chheur, James Hurdley, Hudson Townley, Tilly Blair, Finlay Stretton, Fergus McLeod, Mason Robinson. Well done on making such a positive start to school.
A big thank you to Year 3 student Guy Sowman who spoke to the school last Friday about "Pay it Forward". Guy handed these cards out to students last week and hopefully, they will result in some kind deeds happening at your place.
Unfortunately, a number of events on the school calendar have been cancelled as they were not able to operate within Level 2 restrictions. These included Kids Sing, the Cultural Exchange with Greenmeadows School and the Hangi. There are some events we are still able to host, which include the Cross Country and the Rex Graham Cup. With the Rex Graham Cup next Tuesday, we have been in touch with Sport Hawke's Bay and our event planning has been endorsed. The various sports for the Rex Graham Cup, however, will be held at different venues with no spectators. Erica Cranswick will make contact with families with regards to plans for the day.
The School Cross Country was to be held today but was postponed due to inclement weather. We are hoping we can hold this on Friday, although at this stage the weather forecast is not favourable. Due to Level 2 restrictions, no spectators are permitted.
Assemblies will take place every second week at Level 2. These will be held in teams rather than as a whole school.
Have a fantastic week everyone.
Ngā mihi

Peak Trail Blazer Update
**PEAK TRAIL BLAZER T-SHIRT WINNER - KIND IS COOL**
A big Congratulations to Jonty Rose for coming up with the winning slogan “Kind is Cool” for the Peak Trail Blazer T-shirts this year. What an amazing winning slogan. Well done Jonty! We can’t wait to see this on the t-shirts.
This winning slogan will be printed on the front of 500 t-shirts which are worn as school uniform in term 4 and also by the Peak Trail Blazer competitors.
We will only be doing one t-shirt order this year and t-shirt orders will need to be in by the last week of term 3, Wednesday 29th September. If you would like to order a t-shirt for your child to wear next term, you can purchase online at https://eventplus.net/PTB21
The Tainui Trail Course is selling out fast with only 50 spots left. We have to cap the numbers on this trail to comply with council, so make sure you get your families entries in, to avoid disappointment. We will need to be very strict around our numbers this year as we may have to run the event under different conditions.
The Peak Trail Blazer is being held this year on the 31st October, which is Halloween so the organising team has a lot of fun planned for the children. If anyone would like to help or support the Peak Trail Blazer in any way please contact Catherine Wedd on 0212886770 or email peaktrailblazer@hnps.school.nz

PB4L at HNPS
HNPS is a Positive Behaviour for Learning (PB4L) school.
What is PB4L?
PB4L is a school-wide system that supports and encourages positive behaviours. This framework is evidence-based and will provide us with a consistent process for considering both learning and behaviour across the whole school. At HNPS we all demonstrate our school values of; Resilience, Relationships, Respect and Responsibility. We believe these values will empower students to be lifelong learners.
Our PB4L purpose statement is; Empowering students to show our school values through positive behaviours.
The outcomes for PB4L at HNPS are:
Students will understand and show the expected behaviours in all areas across the school
All teachers will use consistent language and expectations to encourage positive behaviours
Expected behaviours will be explicitly taught and communicated through lessons and activities
We use a reinforcement system that encourages positive behaviours based on our school values
PB4L will complement the wonderful job our staff and students do to make HNPS a great place to be.
