Virtual Learning
We all have mixed emotions as we've moved back to virtual learning. We want everyone in our community to stay safe, and we will miss seeing our Patriots during this time. Please be sure to attend to communication from your child's teacher regarding what to expect during virtual instruction because there have been changes since the beginning of the school year. As we continue to learn and grow, our instruction has evolved and we keep looking to improve what we provide our kids. Most of the instruction your child will receive will be through live Zoom lessons following our typical daily schedule. Your child's teacher can answer any questions you have about the schedule, how to access Zooms, and what to expect. Thank you for your ongoing support, encouragement, and partnership. We wish you all a safe and happy holiday!
HSE Foundation
HSEF believes that Giving Tuesday is a great opportunity to show our teachers and our schools just how much they matter – and its easy!
Step 1 Make a donation @ www.HSEFoundation.org/events/giving-tuesday.
Step 2 Take a selfie picture or video proclaiming why you gave using the UnselfieSign.
Tag #HSEFunselfie, your school, and @HSEFoundation on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or Instagram.
Step 3 Feel great this holiday season! Because of you, faculty and staff at all 22 HSE Schools are feeling the love, and you helped support education opportunities and innovation within HSE Schools.
Counselor's Corner
Dear HPE families,
As we continue virtual learning, please take a look at the Virtual Learning graphic for helpful tips and tricks! During this time, I am available by email and/or phone. You or your child can also set up virtual check-ins with me on my Canvas page. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have needs during this time!
In our Second Step lessons, students have been learning about empathy. We've been reminding students to have empathy, identify their own and others’ feelings, notice and respect same and different feelings, and show compassion. Compassion involves saying kind words or doing something helpful to show you care how another person feels. When students can identify, understand, and respond in a caring way to how someone else is feeling, it helps create a positive and accepting school climate.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Miss Magill

Body Safety
As required by the Indiana Department of Education and Senate Enrolled Act (SEA) 355, Hamilton Southeastern Schools will be providing Body Safety education to our students again this year. These lessons will be provided by the Indiana Center for Prevention of Youth Abuse (ICPYA). All students at HPE (K-4) will receive age-appropriate lessons during the week of December 7-11th.
Prior to your child participating in this program, we are providing you information regarding the specific content of the lesson. You can view this grade level specific information on the ICPYA created site at: https://www.indianaprevention.org/parentresources
Parent Resources — Indiana Center for the Prevention of Youth Abuse & Suicide Child Lures Prevention - Think First and Stay Safe. For parents of children in grade K-6
If, after exploring the online resource, you do not want your child to participate in this experience, please fill out and return the opt-out form attached to this newsletter. The Opt-Out form should be completed and returned to your child's teacher no later than December 4th, 2020.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact Mrs. Burke, principal, or Miss Magill, counselor. Thank you for your continued partnership and support from home.
HPE Curbside: Expanded Pick Up Times
Do you need more books to read and enjoy at home? Virtual learners can use HSE Curbside service to borrow books from the library.
Beginning on Monday, November 30, all students will be able to place up to 4 books on hold weekly. Our new pick up hours are going to be Monday- Friday from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
There will be a book cart in the front vestibule. The curbside pick up book cart is organized alphabetically by last name. All book stacks will have a name tag to help you easily locate your books.
You can just walk in, grab your book stack, and go. No need to sign in or check in with the office. There will also be a book bin for you to return materials as you finish with them.
Books will be ready for pick up the day after you place your holds. So if you place your holds on Monday, they will be ready for pick up by 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday. Books will have a two week loan period.

HPE Book Fair Cancellation
Our Book Fair will be postponed until a later date. Any online orders that were placed, will be delivered to the school. I will contact you personally for pick up instructions when the materials arrive.
For those who sponsored a student by sending gift cards, please know that those will be used later this year when we reschedule the book fair. Student sponsorships will still be accepted any time.
Sponsor a Student
Sponsor student participation at the book fair. Depending on your budget, provide multiple gift cards for students who would not be able to purchase something from the fair. You can sponsor a child by purchasing a Follett Book Fair gift card is easy, just go to https://www.giftfly.com/shop/follett-book-fairs, then choose your design and denomination. You can send them directly to our librarian at kmorgan@hse.k12.in.us. These cards will be distributed to teachers to give students in need.
Support Our Library
Birthday books with donor plates are also available. You can purchase at any time, even if your child's birthday has passed. Students love seeing their name and friends' names in books in the library.
