Keeping the Faith and Keeping Connected

November 29, 2018

Volume 3, Issue 15

"And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth."

John 1:14

Gingerbread House Competition

December 7th is the Gingerbread Competition!

Students work in groups of 3-5 designing, constructing, and decorating a structure within a limited time-frame, using graham crackers, icing, and limited candy decorations provided by the school. In past years students have built structures of the Sydney Oprah House, a Medieval Castle, a Carousel, A Country Church, a Bank Robbery, and Helm’s Deep. Students are encouraged to bring some of their own candies for decorating, although non-edible items are not permitted. Structures will be evaluated and judged at the end of the time period based on a variety of criteria – complexity of structure, decorative creativity, dramatic interpretation, etc. This event has been a lot of fun in the past and is a great way to close out the semester! Athlete-only students are welcome!

Elementary 12:15-1:45pm and secondary 3:00-4:30pm.

*Cost is $2 per student.

Winter Showcase December 10

Come join families and faculty for an evening that celebrates students’ accomplishments. Performances in the sanctuary of Karis Church begins at 7 pm and then a gallery of students’ work from all subject areas will be open in the Activities Building.

Families A-K, please bring a dessert; families L-Z, please bring a snack (vegetable tray, fruit tray, etc.) for the treat table. Treats may be dropped off in the activities building between 6:40 and 6:50, before the evening’s outline of events begin. The sanctuary will open at 6:45 pm.

School Cancellation Policy Due To Weather

Heritage Academy will often follow the judgment of Columbia Public Schools regarding wintry weather and the possibility of a school-day closing. However, Heritage Academy’s final response related to wintry weather will be made independently from the public schools.

In light of this, please know that any school-day cancelation or delayed start notification will be posted to Heritage Academy’s website by 6:25 a.m. on mornings when school will have an altered start-time or not be in session. Additional announcements will then also be posted on Heritage Academy’s Facebook page and placed on the school’s phone answering system.

Study Groups for Finals

The Student Success Center will be hosting study group sessions for finals on Tuesday and Thursday, December 11th, and 13th. Sign up today so we can organize. More information to come. A 1-hour session is $20 and a 2-hour session is $30. Register by emailing Pam Tamerius.

Old School Values, New School Schedule

Heritage Academy is a University-Model® School, facilitating students' access to excellent education, increased time with family, and opportunities for growth toward maturity while providing a cost-effective, college-preparatory education. In an age where family life is becoming increasingly fragmented, the unique structure of the model also serves to “turn the hearts of fathers to their children, and the hearts of children to their fathers ” (Malachi 4:6).
