Breathe
Feeling stressed? Here are some breathing exercises to help relieve stress.
Need Academic Help?
Asking for help in school is a skill you will use for the rest of your life. There are resources available to support you if you are struggling in your classes:
- Sign up for a Braincell Tutor.
- Ask your teacher if you can get help in the English or Math standards lab.
- Sign up to work with your teachers during FLEX.
- Set up study groups with people in your class.
Mid-Year Grade Reports
If you have applied to colleges they may have asked you about your mid-year grade report, which is an updated transcript with your semester 1 grades on it. If you already requested initial transcripts for your colleges your school counselor will automatically send your mid-year grade report when it is ready. You do not need to request it again.
What Does it Mean if I am Deferred?
For those of you who have applied to college via an Early Decision or Early Action application and received a "deferred" decision, please know this is not a denial. The college is waiting to see your mid-year grades to make their final decision. This article gives you some things to consider as next steps. First and foremost, work hard in your classes to end the semester strong.
Scholarships
Searching for scholarships is a continuous effort from now through your last year in college. You can look in many places for scholarships, including these:
The list on Naviance includes many local scholarships, some of which get only a few applications which increases your odds of success! If you need a transcript for a scholarship please contact our Registrar Hollee Kennison at hkennison@ewsd.org.
Be aware of scholarship scams. If a scholarship sounds too good to be true it probably is! Watch this video from VSAC to learn more about finding scholarships.
VSAC Scholarship Application Due Soon!

Don't get caught in a Senior Slump
Keep going, only 6 months left!
You can do it! Keep plugging along!
Senior Slump?
January is upon us along with your final semester of high school. In a few short months the sun will shine and the warm weather and the glory of high school coming to an end may tempt you away from your studies. Senior slump is a very real thing. Colleges know about this and will look at your final grades closely. Some colleges may even rescind their acceptance if they see your grades have deteriorated. Colleges also take note of schedules that have been reduced. School Counselors need to report dropped classes to colleges and explain why they were dropped. Before you decide to drop semester 2 classes, think about how that will impact your college admissions decisions. If you are unsure, you can contact the admissions offices of your colleges. Keep your eyes on the prize and head strong into the finish line!
