SPRING BREAK UPDATES

Horace Maynard Middle School

KICKIN' IT WITH KILGORE

HMMS FAM1LY,

It is crazy to believe that we are already at Spring Break! The year is flying by, but I also know that everyone is ready for a break. Our students and teachers deserve a week to rest up before the final push to end the school.

The months of April and May will be packed with everything from testing, to graduation, to field days, to awards nights, etc. Please make sure you keep checking our Upcoming Dates section and details of events in the newsletter.

Big shout out to our boys soccer and baseball teams on another huge week! The boys soccer team and baseball are both sitting on top of their district standings at this point in their seasons. We are proud of both of those teams!

We also had our first school-wide STEM Competition this week. Ms. Barbara Smith's class took the win with the fastest balloon car and will have a donut party after Spring Break. The 8th grade also got to participate in a College/Career Fair. Thank you to Mr. Brian Shoffner and Ms. Brock from the high school and Mr. Rose and Mrs. Kilgore for organizing this event. It was awesome to see students excited about the opportunities that await them at UCHS and beyond! Lastly, how about the whole school being able to watch our baseball guys compete in an in-school baseball game?! Love seeing our students earn to participate in school-wide activities and make memories! Way to be REAL!

Just a reminder that the school and main office will be closed down next week. If you need anything you can email your GLA and will check emails periodically throughout the break.

Be R.E.A.L.!-

TEACHER POSITIVE REFERRALS

How about this?! This week students have started writing teachers Positive Referrals! They started this on their own. Very proud of the students for starting this! Love this FAM1LY!

CHROMEBOOKS- CHARGE 'EM!

Students need to bring Chromebooks to school each day and the Chromebook needs to be charged. If a student does not bring their Chromebook and/or it is not charged the they can earn a zero for their assignments. That is teacher discretion. Please make sure that they are charged each night.

We will be checking Chromebooks next to make sure students are bringing charged to school.

THE COUNSELING CORNER

This time of the year can be very stressful for students and parents. If you have any questions about your student and their progress or concerns with their progress, please reach out to their counselor. Students are also allowed to reach out to their counselor at any time during the school day. Please encourage them to go to their counselors for ideas on coping strategies and ways to handle stress. We have two of the best, we are lucky to have them in the FAM1LY!

- Shout out to Ms. Scroggins for all she does with our students. She was recognized by her peers for modeling REAL!

- Shout out to Ms. Wilma and Ms. Sonya for modeling REAL and not only doing a fantastic job of keeping our building spotless, but also decorating our building for the next holiday season!

- Shout out to Ms. Wagganer for modeling REAL and coming with solutions when she sees problems, and better than that she often already has the problem solved! No BCD!!!

- Big Shout Out to Coach Edds for organizing the in-school baseball game. Way to create a memory for our students who model REAL!

F.A.M.1.L.Y.

We want our school to be a family first atmosphere and we will define family as the acronym- Forget About Me I Love You. We want our students to learn to serve others and this will also align to our core values.

-Shout out to our FAM1LY Members of the month for the month of March- Mr. Caldwell and Ms. Connie McBee. These two individuals are the definition of forgetting themselves and serving others. We are luck to have them at HMMS!

-Shout out to Ms. Beverly, she is our Sneaky Devil for the month of March. She works behind the scenes filling in whatever role is needed. We appreciate the many hats she wears at HMMS and she will get to park in the Sneaky Devil Parking spot for the month of April!

THIRTY MINUTE THURSDAY

We are lucky to have a staff at HMMS that wants to continue to learn and grow. Each week we have a Thirty Minute Thursday professional development that is led by HMMS teachers in their areas of expertise to share tips and tricks so we can all teach our kids more effectively. Love this FAM1LY!

This week Mr. Rose presented on Classroom Management strategies. Thank you very much for presenting Mr. Rose and thank you to all the teachers that stayed on the Thursday before Spring Break to get better!
