Please continue to be aware of social distancing
Many students, especially the young ones, are mentioning to their teachers the events of the weekend. They share that they are attending birthday parties, going to sleepovers, and meeting friends and family all unmasked. This is extremely dangerous right now. All the precautions we are taking at school won't help if children are not being safe at home. Please refrain from allowing your children to attend such events. Remember to wear your masks and keep social distancing. The precautions will keep us ALL safe at school AND at home.
Google Hangouts for Students will be going away
Valentine's Day
PTA Valentine's Day Sale
We're Wild about LOVE at Locke Hill. Send your Locke Hill Lion some love with a "Wild about LOVE" valentine (sloth or gorilla, randomly selected) with a personalized note. These sweet wild animals measure 11 inches from fingers to toes. All for a $5.50 donation.
Order by: February 10th
In school students will have their "wild animals" delivered on Friday, February 12th. Virtual learners can pick up their orders at the front office starting Wednesday, February 10th.
ONLINE means On Camera
NISD is asking for parents/guardians to help reinforce a very important message for their children: when participating in virtual instruction, all students should be fully engaged and have their video cameras turned on. Teachers will be sharing this same request with students.
In order to maximize the experience that students have in their online classes, it is important that they actively participate, and the first step is to have their camera turned on. Doing so allows teachers to better monitor a student’s level of engagement, as well as their level of understanding.
If your child’s device does not have a video camera or if it is not working, please reach out to their school for assistance in securing a district device.
Progress Reports
Progress reports went live on HAC on Friday, Feb. 5 at 4:00 p.m. In person students received a paper copy from their teacher.
As a reminder to parents, here are the Commitments for Virtual Learning to those who are currently at home:
- Ensure your student follows their assigned schedule and participates in all classes synchronously and asynchronously in order to meet the 90% attendance requirement
- Ensure there is a designated learning space for your student at home free of distractions
- Check out an electronic device from the district, if needed
- Ensure there is adequate internet in the household, or seek assistance from the district
- Become familiar with the Learning Management System (LMS), Schoology, to provide support as needed
- Maintain communication with your child’s teachers by phone, email, or online meetings to receive feedback on their progress and create a learning partnership
- Ensure your child has required school supplies necessary for learning
- Set up a Home Access Center (HAC) account to monitor grades and progress.

2021 - 2022 School Calendar
The NISD Board of Trustees approved the District calendar for the 2021-2022 school year. Northside ISD traditionally approves school calendars two years ahead to provide parents and students ample lead time. Given the COVID disruption along with significant changes to instructional delivery that necessitated changing the current year calendar, the typical two-year lead time couldn't be accomplished.
Multiple options for the calendar were shared and discussed with Cabinet, the Northside Educational Improvement Council (NEIC), and the Academics Committee of the Board.
Teacher planning dates/early dismissal dates will be added later. Click here to view the calendar.
