St. Viator Parish School

The Feast of St. Viator

In 1830, Father Louis Querbes, from the Diocese of Lyons, chose Viator as the patron saint of a parish that would focus on teaching youth and serving the Christian Faith. This group was named The Clerics of St. Viator, now known as the Viatorians. The Viatorians have always been involved with teaching and education. Over 55 years ago, while Las Vegas was still a growing town, the Catholic community asked if the Viatorians would send people to our town to help teach our Catholic youth. For many years the Viatorians were the main teachers at Bishop Gorman High School as well as St. Viator Parish school.

Next Monday, October 21st we celebrate the life of St. Viator and the group of faithful followers who have been inspired by this simple story. We are very blessed to have the chance to learn from this special group of priests and brothers, and to follow their path of observing the Catholic faith and love of education.

~ Mrs. Tracy Brunelle, Principal

It’s official! The founder of the Clerics of St. Viator is now the Venerable Louis Querbes:

Grade 3B Science Lesson

Our 3B students applied their 4E SLE (We recognize, appreciate, and use God given-talent) during their Science lesson this week.

The students identified the needs of animals by identifying their characteristics, life cycles, and their behavioral and structural adaptations that allow plants and animals to survive in an environment.

They also applied our 2A SLE (Love to learn) while discovering that God’s love is unique! In creating all human life, plants, and animals. The porcupines are all unique!

STREAM Challenge!

Third Grade did a STREAM Challenge based on our story of the week, Bat Loves the Night. They designed an experiment to reproduce a bat’s use of echolocation to find objects at night.

WCEA Accreditation Update

Our school faculty has been working diligently these past few months, studying the various aspects of our school and writing the chapters of our Self Study document.

We are currently on schedule. First drafts have been submitted and are currently under review by the accreditation Leadership Team. Drafts will be submitted to Catherine Thompson, Superintendent of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Las Vegas, for further review and suggestions. Please continue to hold our school community in your prayers as we undergo this important process for our school improvement.
