Online Learning... Please be patient

This year educators across the country will embark on the completely unfamiliar journey of "Online Learning." Beckman teachers will be tasked with things like: learning new digital platforms, trying to figure out how to "connect" remotely with students, building new and engaging online activities. and most importantly... managing all this while managing their parental responsibilities. Please know that roughly 40% of our teachers have young children and will not have daycare options. You may "meet" your teacher's children from time-to-time and the teacher may have to step away from a lesson periodically to take care of a spill or help with 3rd grade math. It's not the ideal situation, but it's real. Please understand and please be patient. Our teachers want nothing more than to be the best they can be for your children.

Online Learning Schedule - Mon, Tues, Thurs, Fri

To the left, you will see the "schedule" for online learning on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday during distance learning. Students will be required to login and participate in daily class sessions at the time indicated. Attendance will be taken and the structure of the day will look very familiar to both students and parents.

Wednesday Schedule

During Distance Learning, Wednesdays have been designated as a day for teacher to hold student centered meetings and for students to attend Tutorial. All students have been rostered to one of their 6 teachers and will meet with that teacher at 9:00 am. Teachers will then have open time to meet with students from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.

How will I (my student) login on the first day?

Early next week, all parents and student will receive an email with instructions on how to login to their new Schoology account. Students will simply visit www.tustin.schoology.com and use their mytusd credentials. There will also be directions sent to parents that will explain how to create a parent account so that parents can view content and see student progress.

What is Schoology?

Schoology is a Learning Management System (LMS) that helps unify a number of the tools our teachers already use into one platform. Students and parents will have one place to go to find gradebooks, assignments, announcements, updates and more. To learn how parents can setup an account and monitor student progress, click the video below.

How will grading work during distance learning?

Grading during distance learning will look very similar to grading during "normal" circumstances. Students will receive letter grades that will be added to their transcript as part of their educational records. We will not be using the Credit/No Credit system that was used in the Spring.

Back to School Night

This year, Back to School Night will be virtual. Our teachers will create videos introducing themselves and explaining course expectations. There will also be a virtual campus tour and a principals message. Stay tuned for more details...

TUSD High School Athletics Programs Restart Monday, August 10

The Tustin Unified School District has announced the athletics programs at Beckman, Foothill and Tustin high schools will restart on Monday, August 10. TUSD suspended school athletics and activities on July 10 after the state notified school districts to postpone sports training programs until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) has released new guidance for youth sports activities to reopen including school-based club and recreational programs. All youth sports and physical education in Orange County must follow state guidelines of physical distancing and safety protocols. Sports activities will take place outdoors and no close contact will be permitted under the state’s guidance.

As we move into athletics, a schedule of tryouts will be developed and shared when available.
