When was it established?
-started forming in 1995 but became prominent on Sept. 11 attacks
Why was it established?
-government wanted to provide more protection to citizens after the 9/11 terrorist attack
What are the duties of this program today?
-homeland security hopes to prevent terrorist attacks within U.S., responds to natural disasters, provides border and transportation security, detects radioactive material, and researches on next-generation security technology
