A Note From our Principal
Dear Parents,
At Akin Elementary and across Texas, students will be taking STAAR (State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness) tests in April and May. These tests are designed for students in grades 3-11. This type of assessment, summative assessment, is meant to assess an accumulation of students’ knowledge and to evaluate educational programs.
Due to the requirements of our state testing, we ask that parents (K-5th grade) not visit our campus on our testing days. This does include eating lunch with your student(s) and/or volunteering on these days (April 9th, 10th & May 13th, 14th and 15th). We will need to have a "closed campus" to ensure a quiet testing environment for our students. Thank you for your support!
At Akin, teachers have spent time researching and utilizing professional learning communities to adjust instructional plans, establish standards of quality work and involve each student in self-assessment and self-reflection to positively impact their learning. Effective assessment is a part of quality instruction and Akin teachers are dedicated to continuously improve instruction to provide maximum student learning for all.
